In the morning of Dashami (A hindu festival), married women apply vermillion to the idol of Goddess Durga, and then they assemble together to apply vermillion to each other. This ritual takes place amidst a lot of merriment, as the women smear each others' faces with red vermillion and offer sweets. This ritual, known as “Sindur Khela” (vermillion game) is a very important ritual of Dashami.

Incredible shot on many levels. The close-up, the lighting, the POV, and the perfect moment to press the shutter. The eyes are haunting and stay with you as you turn away.
Very interesting composition. Reminds one of the smokey sky of the Industrial Age; replace the cell tower with a smokestack and it could be 1910 all over again..

Hello Amlan - There is a special quality to this portrait, you have captured something more than an image. Perhaps it is the smile or maybe the eyes but there is personality and warmth here; well done! Good light and super colour and I love the sharp focus on the main subject against the soft focus of the lady behind. Thanks for this really special shot! Best wishes Rosemary
