Soccer in the Rain : Scene from a local soccer match being played at Kharagpur in West Bengal.Soccer is popularly known as football in India. It used to be widely played till the 90s but over the last two decades there has been a sharp decline in the standard of Indian Football. The 1948 London Olympics was India's first major international tournament, where a predominately barefooted Indian team lost 2–1 to France, failing to convert two penalties. The present FIFA Ranking is 145.The best FIFA ranking was 94 in 1996.We can just hope that Indian Soccer will make a grand come back very soon and we can compete at a World Cup Finals within a decade or so.

Four red shirts and a green lawn suit a colour photo perfectly. I am just amazed that the referee or organizers allowed both teams to wear almost identical dresses. I suppose heavy rain would be expected to disrupt the games during the monsoon. Where I live the players are more like to have to put up with heavy snowfall at the end or beginning of the season.
I don't want to sound disrespectful, but considering the huge population of India it is remarkable how few medals that are carried home to India from international championships of any kind.

Hello Farhat, those watery conditions are not perfect for the players but they do add add an extra interest to a colourful scene.
A fine action shot.
Best wishes Les.

A nice image, which has attracted all the effect of player movement, also the water that covers the grass and we see his boots splashing.
A magnificent lighting, as well as the sharpness.
Well done. I like.
Happy start to the week.

Nice action shot ... a tough way to play the game. Great timing and position, nice one-on-one water battle. A different view from India ... nice,

Playing soccer in the rain is very common in some countries, but that's can be a nightmare for players when field is not with good drainage, Farhat.
Nice taken the moment, not evnvy with them at all, the splash was perfect in timing.

What does a little rain matter if you are enjoying yourself! A fine composition with an interesting juxtaposition between the four players, whose red jumpers make them stand out from the pitch. An image with a great atmosphere to it.

nice the snapshot with the young playrs to play soccer in the rain.Their red T-shirts contrast perfect with the green of the field making the image even more effective.A good presented scene.

Your shots shows well that dedication to a sport will not be subdued by the weather. It does look to be pouring down, so fair play to those guys perseverance. Interesting note too, I never knew where India was ranked in terms of football globally, I thought it would be much higher. Similar in Ireland, the standard has slipped a lot in recent years. Perhaps one day we will see Ireland play India in the world cup final :)
Have a great new week.

My son loves playing soccer. I don't know where he gets his passion from (maybe from my father, definitely not me). I, on the other hand, only watch it.
These red T-shirts on the green field stand out very nicely. Your timing was excellent, I love the splash of water frozen in the frame.

I love football and always watch the world cup games whether Greece plays or (most often) not. It might be that football is not very popular in India but we don't know much about Indian football, though you do great in other sports. The players in your picture must be quite dedicated and try to use technique in such a difficult field. I like very much the way you've captured and framed the scene, the colours make it very attractive. The players in the supporting roles have interesting expressions. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
krzychu30 (12859) 2013-08-26 14:18
not the easiest weather to play football, but your shot captures perfectly the competition and battle between the players.
The scene is excellently timed and composed, what makes it so successful to admire.

I never quite understood the appeal of this beautiful game until I went to Europe for the first time. I guess it's safe to say, it's not just a sport around the world, it's a way of life! :) Not yet as popular here in the U.S., but the following is growing fast. I like this action shot, and it just goes to prove that people will play and live out their fondness for the game despite any inclement weather conditions. Great timing to catch the "splash," making it all the more lively. Have a great day ahead.
Waylim (23476) 2013-08-26 22:23
I like the spirit of this shot, people enjoying the love of sport even in the wet field, the games goes on. Excellent moment, the color of the costume really make them stand out and cheerful. Everyone was so concentrated on the game.
marabu61 (5879) 2013-08-27 2:24
This looks rather like waterball than football, but then the real fan doesn't let himself being bothered by the weather.
Nice capture with the splashing water clearly visible, thus adding a great touch of movement and dynamism to the compostion.
have a great day
eldancer1 (20918) 2013-08-27 9:21

What a nice action shot, you really can see the rain. These "boys" must have been wet what wet means. Perfect settings and focusing. Well done
jhm (128287) 2013-08-28 3:22
Maybe a little bit to much water on the field for good game football.
But everyone is very well concentration for this game.
Excellent composition, lovely presentation.
Very well done, TFS.

Futbol may be the sport that unites the world! Unless the rivalries lead us to fights!
We will cheer for India should they make the field for 2014; our other favorite team is MEXICO! Team Mexico seems to struggle -- always in the second 8, but never in the Top Eight.
Great shot showing the puddles and the splashes. Well done, sir!

I think that Luxembourg never played against India in an official Football match. We are on position 140 FIFA ranking, which is not too much better. Nevertheless a very sharp action picture.Very good contribution to TE. TFS.
With regards from Luxembourg

a dynamic sports scene here, you have caught the action of this soccer match with the additional graphical effect of the water flooding the play field.
I like the expression and the attitude of these players, concentrated in the game.
It's a good photo.

The three men on one diagonal line
creates a nice depth. The vertical
position emphasize the depth extra,
also the moment. Composition and
light management are good.
willperrett (4187) 2013-09-04 0:54
Yes I agree: a country the size of India, and with a footballing background presumably from the British, should be more of a force in world football. I sympathise, as I support my local team, Portsmouth. They won the FA Cup in 2008, and were in the top half of the Premier league; then they went bust, sold all their players and are now struggling in the bottom tier of the Football League...
serp2000 (33405) 2013-09-14 21:08
once again... I can't pass by this expressive scene, great timing shot! Well, I think India could find the 11 best players from one billion citizens for the World Cup final! Wish you to win!
tatadalou (4085) 2013-09-29 9:29
I like the alignment of these three football players, focused on their job. The scene is well caught.
