Early morning, Jayanti, Dooars.
Fuji Provia 100, Canon 50E, Tokina 19-35, Nikon Coolscan IV.
NBSTC buses ply twice daily (except June to September, when it it travels only to Bala) between Alipurduar and Jayanti. Alipurduar is connected to New Jalpaiguri/Bagdogra (3.5 hrs) and Kolkata (17 hrs approx) by train and roads. Accommodation is scarce, unless you are bohemian and can suit yourself to the situation. If you can, please stay there for at least 3 days. Public Health engineering dept. of the WB Govt has a guest house here, which is the best location wise, and probably the least clean. Then there is a CESC guest house (2 rooms), a forest department rest house and a dormitory. About 3 years back, a private 'hotel' has come up with 4 rooms (forest department doesnt allow hotels to be built here, so this facility is more of a home grown one of Mr Chatterjee). Facilities are basic in all the places. Bachelors can also put themselves up at the locals' homes at a nominal charge. Power cuts are regular and phones work only during daytime. You would get basic but delicious food at Mr Chatterjee's home grown 'restaurant'.
Why should you visit? The answer is probably there in the photograph.
Best time to visit - winter. Light woolens and preferably umbrellas.
