last year's winter i was in Gangasagar. I met many SADHU BABAs and pilgrims during GANGASAGAR MELA(Fair). These pilgrims are drying their cloth in the air.. I took this shot..
Sagar Island lies on the continental shelf of Bay of Bengal about 100 km (54 nautical miles) south of Kolkata. It belongs to the Republic of India and is governed by the State government of West Bengal. The island is large — with an area of around 300 km². It has 43 villages and a population of over 160,000.
This island is a famous Hindu pilgrim place. Every year on the day of Makar Sankranti (mid of January), hundreds of thousands of Hindus gather to take a holy dip at the confluence of river Ganges and Bay of Bengal and offer puja in the Kapil Muni Temple.
Gangasagar pilgrimage and fair is the second largest congregation of mankind after the holy Kumbha Mela. The latter is observed once in four years at alternate locations in north, central and central-west parts of the country, Gangasagar fair and pilgrimage is held annually on the Sagar Island’s southern tip in the Ganges delta atop the Bay of Bengal. That makes Gangasagar all the more distinctive.
In 2007, about 300,000 pilgrims took the holy dip where the Hooghly meets the Bay of Bengal on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. For the rest of the year about 500,000 people come to the island.Almost five-hundred thousand pilgrims thronged Sagar Island in 2008

with each photo you are becoming one of the best representers of indian photography recently on TE. the composition, timing and counterlight transparency are spot on.

The (deliberate?) under-exposure has created a wonderfully atmospheric image taken in the dying light of the sun. Compositionally very strong, with the swirl of the cloth holding the group of people together, and I'm glad you haven't tried to beef up the colour saturation: the muted tones are much better suited to the subject.

I don't know whether you deliberately underexposed, as we can see the full sun as a ball here! You have done well with the sun framed with the sari caught high for drying. The semi silhouettes work very well

that is a great moody pic.lovely composition and well controlled light.best thing about this pic is the wavy piece of cloth blown by the air and the sun.

You're capturing well this scenen by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive the regionable spectacle that Hindu pilgrims are drying their cloth in the air. Although I do not know Whether it doing this and for what purpose, it seems to a mysterious custom. And, it draws out a good atmosphere under light of sun.

Complimenti!
Ciao e buona serata

I like this one with the sari drying in the wind, transparent and standing out well on the neutral sky while people are in these difficult light conditions almost restricted to mere silhouettes
Bravo for this shot

this is so original and intriguing. The light management here is amazing as it would have been so easy to get this over exposed. But this is perfect and a wonderful glimpse of these pilgrims. Fascinating and compelling imagery!

It's something new to me. Every country has its own custom. I've learned it from your picture. Thanks.

A very interesting daily life scene you have captured here. The backlight from the dimmed sun creates a nice effect here, and of course the wind plays well with the clothes too. Lovely scene, very well executed:) TFS. Have a nice WE.
Best regards, Erling

frame-tato khub bhalo korechho brother, kintu ektu underexposed lagchhe tow brother... Semi-silhouettes are nice but IMHO, some light be needed to those figures... Understand the problem to capturing it against the light. Overall I loved the frame. A nice work but scope for better...

Once again a very artistic composition. I love the way the fabric is flowing in the air with the sunset in between. The silhouette of the people make strong shape and focal point. There is a slight tilt to horizon, perhaps it is the sloping of the landscape but that is minor detials.

I´m a little bit busy in my job lately,so dis not have the chance to comment this beautiful photo earlier.
And it´s really magnificent! The light and the unique mood it creates, but also your skillful execution of the scene. All perfect!
You have really excellent intuition for such daily-life scenes and your beautiful country provides you with good opportunity to it.
Wish you a nice weekend

This is an impressive dailylife capture and the local activity with the semi silhoutted figs provide the strong inviting contrast. I love the softness of the fireball and the muted sky which evoke a special mood of it really seems so calm in limited color. It's a splendid photo works and credit to your effort. Congrats.

This is a very well captured moment and a technically very good photo. The white cloth makes a lovely movement in the air and the lifted arms are fine accents against the darkening sky. The soon setting sun is perfectly captured between the cloth and one arm. You have handled the sparse light superbly, allowing us to see a fair amount of details of the pilgrims. This photo has an exciting atmosphere.

Looks as they play with the wind, rather than drying, but red the note and must agree...
Nicely spotted, figures against the sun and mist, well rendered.

Very nice capture of this cultural tradition with the sun. I do think people should respect other peoples tradition. I like the lighting. Well done, tfs.

Hello Indrasish. Indian exotic world. When I look at your gallery, my eyes stuck on that photo. The composition is perfect, because all parts of the image are located at ideal place. Above all, the photo is very atmospheric.
