Shot taken at Digha sea beach during Monsoon season when the sea is at its fiercest best.
The high tide is coming creating huge waves dwarfing the tourists who are watching the waves in apt attention. They better watch because each year on an average around 20-30 tourists drown in the rough seas during the monsoon season. There are no life guards to look after the bathers. Some were appointed by a local organisation, but now they have stopped working due to the high risk and meagre payments.
Here the long lens has created a kind of perspective, the waves are actually breaking a few meters away from this group of bathers.
Thanks for looking.

The telephoto lens heightens the tension in this well presented action shot. Good choice of black and white. The group of tourists make a fine set of silhouettes against the silvery tones of the swell. There are always some people who think they know better than others when it comes to dangerous situations as some have found out over here in the recent bad weather and very high tides.

here you presented a nice frame. The waves are really great to see with those silhouetted onlookers. Great idea to show it without colours. Nice one. Tfs.

like this! A really clever idea for an image and it works so perfectly in B&W. Highly original, arty and superbly executed. Well done - an imaginative piece of imagery.
Have a good week ahead - B.

Glorious contre-jour lighting here, and such a sense of dynamism. Maybe it would have been nice to see at least a little detail in the silhouetted figures, but it's fine just as it is.

Amazingly creative shot, and perfectly suited to black and white, this is brilliantly done! I have never seen such strong silhouettes like this, and certainly never in an environment like the crashing waves of the sea like you have here. Perfectly composed too, I like the strip of sky that you left at the top, breaking the scene into sections.
The sense of power from the sea is inspiring too. This is a wonderful shot, thanks for sharing.
All the best

Fantastique capture des hautes vagues , un excellent contre jour, les personnes en silhouettes s'amusant avec la mer agitée, parfois dangereuse!!!

From mountain to the sea... and with equal ease and skill!
Great shot it is of the silhouetted bathers facing a high tide. The water seems frozen in BW... perfect choice for sea close ups.

Hi Subho. An interesting black and white photo. Whoever sees these waves, hardly dares into the water. So it may go to the men in the foreground. The silhouette of men stands out well from the background. Well done.

Very good with the silhouettes of these man on a background of beautiful shimmering but wild crashing waves.
I know that the high tide during monsoon season can be very dangerous.
Best regards, Paul

A fine captured moment and a gorgeous scene with the persons seen in silhouette, and the crashing wave giving a sense of movement to this shot. Your timing here was perfect, you caught the wave at the right moment and I can almost feel the strength of the water rushing through. Very well done.

An aptly suited title for this shot which conveys the dramatic scene and sensation of rushing waters. This is a wonderful "squashed" perspective, bringing all of the action right to the forefront. Plus, it has one of my favorite aspects to any image, silhouettes. You've done a terrific job in perceiving the sense of force and motion, this is a wonderful image, and one well emphasized in black and white. Sharp detail in those crashing waves too...this is fun, frolic, and fear! :) Enjoy the day ahead.
mcmtanyel (7307) 2014-01-13 20:58
Oh yes! Waves that are higher than the bathers, nicely caught. I like the silhouettes and the "frozen" droplets.
PS. Thanks for the WS, nice alternate interpretation.

This is an impressive display off power, a great action shot well composed with strong silhouetted figures creating the stark contrast to the violence taking place beyond. Lovely tonal contrast and lighting, this looks really fantastic in every way, just love the way the light catches the water with lots of sparkles I think your straight on shooting angle works really well just at the right spot to absorb the full impact of every swell coming across. Awesome power of nature and you have done it complete justice with a fantastic image. Hats off!! Tfs

Like how you have captured and managed this fun scene of these guys enjoying them selves in the sea. The sea looks great with all the bubbles in the crashing waves, well done and Tfs.

Ciao e buona serata

I've always been very impressed by the strength of waves of the Indian seas, whatever in the east or west costs. We do not experience that in Europe, except at a few places or at very high tides or in bad weather situations
I like your shot very self explanatory, with the silhouettes et fg
Bravo, have a nice night
COSTANTINO (46454) 2014-01-15 23:06
amazing and fantastic capture in sepia

i like this b/w shot, i like in particular the dark silhouettes in fg.
ourania (21414) 2014-01-19 6:41
a great idea to render this dynamic image in monochrome, your treatment has enhanced the contrasts and drama of the scene. I like very much how the silhouetted group of bathers stand out before the striking dynamism of the breaking waves. Their calmness (explained by your note:) is very intriguing too. I also like the luminous silvery tones and the rich textures of the sea. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great week,

The sunlight on the waves gave you a very nice effect! I like the composition with the silhouettes and b&w seems a great option here! Good sense of movement!
williamcoombs1 (245) 2014-02-11 7:04
Though so many others have recognized how fantastic this photo is, I have to add my appreciation as well. There is something elemental about the b/w and about the way your POV makes the viewer feel as if the wave is coming in on top of him/her. A great result!
