Photographer's Note

This is the photo of one of the ruined battlements of
the fort that the British East India Company built
around 1750s as a possible shelter of refuge in case
they had been routed from Calcutta, when following
the accusation against the British East India Company
of malpractices in business-dealings Siraj-ud-Daullah,
the-then Nawab of Bengal, threatened to attack Calcutta
with his superior forces. The remains of the fort have
been victims of natural ravages, local scavenging for
building materials and apathy and neglect on the part of the local, state as well as central agencies whose
responsibility it is to preserve the monuments of
historic importance in the country over the years to
such an extent that the day is not far off when
every vestige of this piece of history will be wiped
off completely from the face of the earth.
