Road to Darjeeling : This shot was taken on way to Darjeeling from Kurseong on NH-55 somewhere close to Tung or Sepoydhura. This is the hilly National Highway which joins Siliguri town in the plains with Darjeeling town.It is also known as the Hill Cart Road and is about 80 kms long. This shot was taken on an overcast day and the hills look the same through out the Monsoon season.

The dark monsoon clouds seem to have brought out a marvellous glow of the brightly coloured houses. The natural effect (and maybe a careful saturation) is sensational and very attractive. It's also amazing to see the rail tracks so very close to the houses. Is the nearest car actually driving on the right side? Or is it about to overtake the black car just before the hidden curve? Sorry, but I have seen som crazy behaviour on Indian roads :-).

Love this point of view, and it matches so beautifully to the image that springs to my mind when I read the excellent title you have given the capture. The red house looks a little precarious from this angle, but I guess the view is superb :)
All the best

Hello Farhat ,
This is an excellent perspective on this road and the high colored houses . The cloudy sky and the light create a splnedid mood .

The colors in this photo are extraordinary. The POV is well chosen, the framing is immaculate. I cannot get over that bright green building on the right.

The colourful painted facades stand out strongly against the dark monsoon sky.
Weather and wind have clearly left their mark on these buildings.
Funny but some residents would be able to jump up from their terrace on the roof of a passing train :)
Best regards, Paul

Une ambiance particulière est rendue par ce ciel couvert.Très bonne composition avec les teintes de ces bâtiments.
ikeharel (44395) 2013-09-13 0:44
Inspite the grey clouds you managed a nice view of the houses on high-road up in the mountains.
Notable is the front glass of the car from where taken this - but unlikely to crop tythe left part with this mark. Nevertheless, you did right not gave-up showing this picture.

Salam Farhat. Another atmospheric shot from Darjeeling. Overcast but with such majestic views all around, it still must be a treat to be able to take photos so high up. The colours of the houses offer some relief to the overcast look. Regards. Klaudio.
krzychu30 (12881) 2013-09-13 1:36
magnificent compositon with some very interesting and colorful buildings along the road and so lovely, moody sky(sometimes cloudy sky can be much more atmospheric than sunny, blue sky)
Simple, but thanks to so many details and moody lighting magnificent composition!
Excellently framed and executed!

hi, is it in Darjeeling? At first view I though it was captured in the small villages in the route of Darjeeling (may be Tung or Sonada). Anyway your picture is full with atmosphere. I can feel the moisty atmosphere of these region. The colour tone is superb. A nice composition with the road aside. Tfs.
annjackman (15659) 2013-09-13 2:47
Another lovely image from this region. The bright coloured walls stand out so well against the grey sky. An interesting place and there seems to be a railway very close to the road.
Very well taken - TFS.
Kind Regards, Ann

A very striking photo, with vivid colours and good view up the curving road towards the gloomy sky. You show here that the weather does not have to be very bright to make a dramatic photo.
kato (9693) 2013-09-13 5:23
You're capturing well this place by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the tasteful buildings/house with colorful outer wall along the road and the loose lope which some cars are rising. And, this overcast day draws out a moist atmosphere in this image.

Interesting colors and light.
Photo has climate.
Have a nice evening
Kugart (1776) 2013-09-13 6:36
Superb shot of the road to Darjeeling. Lovely angle you have used for this capture which shows off the the houses really well with their beautiful vivid colours. Great clarity and lighting considering it was a very overcast day. Thanks

Useful picture showing the road around Darjeeling, the slopes are hard here the city is located on a crest at more than 2000m high Fabbs, I can see some old tracks on the left, but i don't think they're the ones of the toy train, kind regards
aleXundar (701) 2013-09-13 9:09
An excellent one with great clarity and superb ambiance in a cloudy morning.

LOVE THIS IMAGE - WELL DONE!!!!
Strong colours, textures & the broody sky... one of your best.
jcpix (6820) 2013-09-13 19:40
I know very well the effects of the monsoons, they sure make for a more dramatic and energetic sky, right? Was this taken through a car window, or is that actually a beam of sunlight breaking through the dark clouds and not a reflection on glass? A very nice composition here, using the road as a guide into and through the framework. I like the strong, rustic colors and textures from the old buildings, there's a lot of character in those exteriors. Nicely controlled exposure, it's all quite detailed and balanced. Well done, thanks for taking along for the ride. :) Have a great weekend.
mohammad_H (7490) 2013-09-13 23:52
India's monsoon rains, and climax with a cloudy sky background
Houses with a beautiful view different colors
Note that the photo was taken from inside the car, but the resolution is good
pierrefonds (51196) 2013-09-14 3:24
The length of the street is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colours of the different houses. I like the efect of the dark sky on the colours. hAVE A NICE DAY.
ChrisJ (91420) 2013-09-14 5:04
The sunbeams at left are unusual and well captured, Their diagonals add dynamism. A superb diffused light almost throughout that provides maximum shadow detail. The cars & people at the lookout animate the scene, and the colorful houses brighten up a dull day. Tfs!
jacquest (16587) 2013-09-14 5:59
The dark clouds help bring out well saturated colors. The oblique line of the houses and the curving road give deepness. The light upward view adds interest.
npecanhuk (56480) 2013-09-14 8:04
Interesting and attractive picture!
Sharpness, management of light, colors, horizontal format, chosen pov and composition are all excellent!
I love that sky, although it's quite cloudy and grey!
TFS - congrats,
Enjoy your week-end,
clic (12525) 2013-09-14 8:39
The "spirit" of Darjeeling is fully and beautifully depicted by this array of exotic dwellings perched up-hill.
Thier colors stand out well, seen against the neutral skies.
mkamionka (27197) 2013-09-14 13:28
I like this reportage -it helps to imagine the whole trip, not only some attractive final destination but also the way there, and you have well captured it here. I like how colorful is the place in spite of the cloudy weather. The houses although quite damages have a certain charm.
Very well seen and captured,
macjake (45896) 2013-09-14 13:43
these are the type of scenes that i enjoy most.
love seeing the rustic architecture in the city.
and the mood is perfectly set with the overcast skyline.
nikkitta (9205) 2013-09-14 14:30
The menacing grey sky helps to add contrast at the very colorful houses, like the red one in special, alone on the top
Excellent composition, congrats
ourania (19024) 2013-09-15 5:10
I like very much this point of view and composition that put us in the position of a traveller through this interesting and remote town. Apart from the intriguing townscape with a glimpse into the daily life there, we get a delightful sense of movement and transition. You've managed the gloomy lighting very effectively and captured great details and moody colours. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely week,
adramad (31195) 2013-09-15 12:58
Wow .... superb composition, with this group of houses so different in height and colors and shapes, which together with the surrounding greenery between them, gives a special charm to the whole, superb POV with that perspective in diagonal, the sky threatening a charm .
Beautiful colorful natural.
Magnificent both luminosity, as sharpness.
Very well done.
I wish you a happy start to the week.
UlfE (14148) 2013-09-17 10:24
You make excellent use of the unusual and very attractive lighting here. The colourful houses on the hillside have nice luster even if the sky is very dark. The composition is superb and the sharpness. You could actually see every little detail. TFS and have a nice day!
josepmarin (56591) 2013-09-17 12:17
I noticed you took this photo inside the car, because of a stripe in the glass, but you have reached a great quality of image and of light, in spite of the cloudy sky.
The result is a colorful composition, very attractive at sight.
I like these houses painted in vivid colors.
Your work is good.
EstudioChispa (1746) 2013-09-20 9:06
Great eye, Farhat -- the colors of the houses stand out wonderfully against the gray sky!
adores (31019) 2013-10-08 17:00
Another good shot of this famous area! It's great with the dark sky and the colourful houses. Very good pov and rainy atmosphere! The monsoon sometimes gives great opportunities for photos!
tomi1 (2088) 2013-10-09 7:25
It seems this photo was taken inside some vehicle but I am not sure. I see a ray reflection at the upper left corner of the frame which also seems natural. The side face of the houses looking to the plain show they are well positioned. The vertical construction was well designed. Some houses seem recent and others not. At least the yellow one needs a new painting. I notice the wall has plants and moss whatever means some seasons are too damp. I like the weather when these dark clouds domain the sky. The photography ever amazes us by the tonalities. Never will know a single person who is living at this place but somehow my eyes and soul witness this jewel on earth. Warm regards. Tomi
