Photographer's Note

In this shot you get to see a schoolboy performing the job of a Band Master during the Independence Day Parade 2012 in Darjeeling.He is all dressed up in the Ceremonial Uniform with the Band Master staff in his hand.

My friends may have become a little bored with my series of photographs.So this time around I am choosing individual photographs for a few weeks.Enjoy and keep commenting.

Hello Farhat - interesting capture of this band master, caught in mid stride with good action. This is one that perhaps might be better suited to color, as the ground behind him is somewhat overexposed in monochrome but restoring color might help with that. Still, a nice and evocative image - thanks for sharing it!

Namaste Farhat,
this one is an interesting composition centred on the only personage.
In this case one young Band Master caught in an explicit framing, with a B&W treatment that provides a solemn atmosphere and lightly dramatic, and which gives a great result for the composition.

the way you've framed the picture and the b&w treatment are well considered and effective. You direct our attention to the brisk and elegant movement which you have captured with marvellous sharpness and timing. I think that the placement of the band master on the right part of the frame accentuates his figure and the force of his stride. The even backdrop sets him off superbly. Hi Fahrat,
This is a very good portrait of the "little band master". You captured him very well, as he seems to take his role very seriously, and his marching gait is excellent.
Interesting B&W conversion, although I think Indian colours are always so cheerful, it´s a pity to miss them :-) Maybe a colour version would be useful in WS.
Also, I would have done a tighter crop around the boy, the large space around him being unnecessary, in my opinion.
An appealing post all in all.

An excellent B&W photo. Smart choice of horizontal frame to accentuate the young man with good sharpness. Excellent photo with nice light contrast and very good POV choice. Well chosen shallower DOF separating the man nicely from BG.

The cadre is very good and the contrast ideal! But what makes this photograph unique is the expression of the boy! Both his face expression and his movement somehow are very eloquent in giving away his moods!
