Photographer’s Note
From a remarkably quiet and peaceful corner of Sudder Street, the well known tourist ghetto of Calcutta. Most parts of this street are packed with cheap hotels (and one or two more classy), restaurants, cafés, money-changers, second-hand book-shops etc.
I was surprised to find out that this street also for some time was the home of Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941), one of the Bengali intellectual giants – poet, playwright, novelist, composer, painter, philosopher and recipient of the Nobel prize in literature in 1913.
This bust of Tagore is situated outside his house, near the huge Indian Museum, in the heart of Calcutta.

Hello Gert
The square crop works well here and it also means there is more detail to focus on. The man in the centre with the white shirt doesn't contribute anything to the photo but if you had of waited for him to move you probably would have missed out on the activities of the other 2 groups. Tfs, Marlene

Hej Gert,
very interesting shot! It seems that you just can walk along the streets and take photos practically at every corner, and each of these photos will be interesting.
I read what Marlene wrote about the man in the white shirt... Well, we can't always wait and choose the best moments!
Sometimes you may want to skip the minor but then you risk to miss the major!:)
It seems to me that none of these people cares about your taking a photo of them... ?
Wishing you a very nice Sunday,
kind regards,
Elena

An interesting and atmospheric daily life photo from Calcutta. A good composition, fine exposure control, pleasant natural colours, good clarity and excellent sharpness. A good note completes this good TE contribution. TFS,

Gert: I wouldn't say you have any less fortune for calibrating a scene - it's a function of shots taken - I very much like the swarm of details in your panorama here. Clear and sharp as well. Nice contrasts from the marble to the loiters... c

Hej Gert,
You must have cropped away some part of this capture, and it would be interesting to know from which part. The remainder here is very well balanced and everything seems to be in exactly the right place. Did you also use some perspective correction tool to get the edges so straight? Well, whatever, this is a very good photo and I reward it my last points for today!

Just a street scene gert, but in India almost every tableau if carefully taken creates a fien image. My own concern here is that i wish the guy by the Taggore statue had space between him.

Hello Gret,
So Tagore watches over this street. Its such a rich composition. There seem to be three or four different photo opportunities in it. The most outstanding feature is the light falling on Tagore there.
Superb and rich.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Gert - Well, you nicely combined an interesting daily life scene and the sculpture, well exposed. I esp. like the scene with the woman selling bananas, and the kids around her. I had thought Tagore was mainly known abroad. A major avenue in northern Tel Aviv is named after him. I also a found a statue of him in the town of Balatonfured, Hungary, he used to visit that place (I add a snapshot of it in the WS section). Regards, Daniel

Hello Gert,
Beautiful daily life imae, very much the way I remebered how my childhood was like, One can just find something to sell and set up a display anywhere and wait for customer. I will always be a customer if I have money. This is a life I know so well long time ago. You have capture it well showing it in a very casual way, without anyone posing of looking into the camera, like you were never there. Excelent shot. Thanks
Way
