Photographer’s Note
The Durga Puja festival is the most important of the whole year for the residents of Kolkata. It symbolises the trumph of good over evil. In this case the godess Durga over the buffalo-headed demon Mahishasura. Thousands of statues of the godess Durga are made by sculptors in the Kumartuli district. They are then displayed in shrines throughout the city for four days and ritualy immersed in the Hooghly River on the last day of the festival

Steve: I like this busy, somewhat bizarre street scene - only if you could have included the full Durga at the top - still a strange scene. regards, c

Hi Steve, I find this festival scene quite captivating and the colours, alongside the flash, lighting and slight blur, has a mesmerising appeal. Like Caleb says, it would have been nice to see the faces, but nevertheless I like the capture of the historical procession with the new capturing technology so very close. All the best, Casper

I like it a lot Steve - the dynamic framing resulting in the cut off on the figure works for me and adds to the intense dramatic energy of the moment - colours, light, effort, smoke - a great theatrical image!
