~ Sindur Khela | The Vermillion Game ~
Dashami is the day when
Goddess Durga accompanied with her children sets for Kailash, her husband's abode. With a heavy heart the Bengalis immerse the clay idol of Durga in the sacred Ganges bidding her goodbye and earnestly waiting to see her again the next year. The immersion ceremony is called "Bishorjon".
At Daasami, Idols are taken away in large processions for immersion in water. "Sindur Khela" (Vermillion game) is a major event of Dashami. First, the married women greet the Mahadevi for one last time, accompanied by rituals. They do aarati, but ready-to-chew paan-leaves in the hands of the goddess, put sweets on the lips of the idol, wipe out eyes as one does to wipe off the tears when leaving a loving place. This event is called "Durga Baran".They apply vermilion to the Goddess's head and to each other and greet each other with sweets.

Tu as le sens du moment et tu trouves bien le moment de le magnifier par un beau cadrage et une superbe saturation des couleurs. J'aime beaucoup le petit air taquin de la dame.

This is an amusing picture and an interesting note. I love the happy grin of the woman to the left as she smears her friend's face. The colours and light are perfect.

with all due respect, these rituals sound and look so much fun. The greek orthodox religion is very different, austere and suggestive. Thus, reading your note and looking at this scene is amazing. I wish we could see the whole face and expression of the lady in the middle but even as it is, her joy is evident and your spontaneous capture is very effective. I like very much the spectacular religious display behind the ladies, the depth, the sense of movement, the colours and the atmosphere. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

First off, great notes...very interesting and well informed text to accompany this image. It's certainly bright and colorful, and what I enjoy most is the fun interaction...catching both ladies smiling adds a certain charm and emotion to the moment. Its quite expressive from both a cultural and photographic standpoint. Very well captured and presented with fine detail and human interest. Have a great week ahead. Take care.
