This is one of the busy ferry ghat (terminus for ferry boats) in Barrackpore. The place is known as,
"Dhobi-ghat". Dhobi means washerman. During the British-rule in India, this ghat was used by washermen to wash military uniforms.
This snap was taken around sunset, the time when local workers, travellers return to their home at Srirampur, the other bank of the Hooghly.

Hi Somnath. I like this shot a lot - it's very well composed with the diagonals of the pier and the lights creating graphic impact. The crowded boats add interest but what makes the shot for me is the dynamic action of the boys running down the pier. The patch of green grass works well for the composition too. Very nice work.

A pleasant action shot Somnath, well framed with the perspective on this catwalk aside bringing us to the boat and the mist over the background, a very good shot at a decisive moment with an excellent title to get the feel right away.

to me, this is the best shot you have in TE since you have been here. great perspective, the diagonal wooden ramp, the interative element of the running guys make this shot special.
the gloomy atmosphere tells us that rains have arrived in this part of the world.
