Jayanti (or Jainty) is a very small picturesque village close to Buxa Reserve Forest in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, India. The place is on the banks of Jayanti river inside the reserve. The river forms a natural border with the Bhutan Hills (Sinchulla Range).
It is only 30 km away from Alipurduar Rly. Station but the place is still not overcrowded with tourists as one has to pre-arrange conveyance from the station to reach here.
The picture is of the most important part of the village, the tree and its cemented pedestal being the central point. Under other trees nearby you can find two tea-stalls, a small eating place, a medical store and even a barber-shop!
Can you read what is written on the platform?
There are 3 questions;
1)Who am I?
2)From where I come?
3)After death where I go?
There is no clue as to who has written this. I think it will be written after the writer discovers who he/she is.

Someone is burning the sins nears the holy cow!!
The sky in the background is terribly washed out.
The composition fails to impress, and if the energy starts flowing from quality photography to snapshots, and uploading the images just for the sake of uploading, the downward journey has started.
Its time to concentrate on the camera, the different settings, control over the exposure and the list is not too long.
I am sure you are here not for chiseling the writing skills.
There are a number of artists from whom you can learn, and Subhendhu Bagchi is one of the finest artists, whose footsteps you can follow.

Amazing how many good photgraphers I see from West Bengal,I am a fan of the Bengaly films of Ray and Ritwik Gadag,it is one of the most cultural states of India.
I see youve just started, because your gallery is still small, but with strong work!
This is India village life at its best expressed.
Well done Alekhya.
Good night from the Netherlands.

personally I like this shot a lot. I was their in Doors in 2006, I can feel the atmosphere. Nice natural composition with the available morning light which comes from right. The smoke mixed with the mist of the weather, created an haze which made this morning view more interesting though you hadn't got a clear blue sky... Nice street photography where we can see some shop and a nicely textured tree, through which the orange morning rays are trying to enter in middle... We can see a cow/bull is standing close to the fire to get some warmth in such cold mid-december cold atmosphere of terrain... No people in the road in such morning but the drivers are on road with their trucks because they have to travel a lot during the day, probably Assam or Kolkata... So, at a whole this image fits with my taste... Well done.

A charming village scene, and a good note to explain the tree and its pedestal. I think you have captured the atmosphere well, although in some ways the structure on the left side is a distraction. I would suggest getting in a little closer to the tree (the focal point), or moving a little to the right before shooting, which would also bring the buildings and trucks in the smoke a little nearer.
