Photographer’s Note
During British rule, from 1896 the construction of Cellular Jail was started and it was completed in 1906 with 698 cells.
The Jail was constructed with seven wings, spreading out like a seven-petal flower. In its centre it had a tower with a turret. Connected to this were the three storey high seven wings with 698 isolated cells. This is why it is called the Cellular Jail.
It is a National Monument in free India.

Hi Dr.Subhash.
A well caught frame of the corridors of the cellular jail at PORT BLAIR.
Yesterday, I was seeing the movie KAALAPANI , which was mostly shot here, and today , this image makes me remember the lost lifes there during the great struggle of our Independence. I think, still now, the cries of innocent warriors of our nation can be heard echoed there in the walls... The paths may be blood-stained...the roofs maybe filled in lovely memories of the people who were made prisoners there..
This image from you is a memorable one.
Well composed and presented.
Let's pray for the brave militant hearts of those years....
SALUTES.
