Photographer’s Note
Flying into Port Blair it didn't dawn on me that what I was seeing was the legacy of the 2004 Boxing day Tsunami until the end of the holiday when we took a trip out west of Port Blair when we could see the damage at ground level. If you look closely you can see what used to be either forest or Mangroves in the foreground.
The flood waters took so much of the land away with it at sea level that is has been unrecoverable.
People don't normally build their houses at sea level!
The photo is not brilliant due to the windows on the old Air India plane being very scratched and opaque but I've done what I can to clear it up.
