Photographer’s Note
Datia, which lies on the track from Gwalior to Jhansi is a small palace town founded by the Bundela chief Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo. It is a crowded little village with narrow lanes, with streets are lined with sweet marts, bangle sellers, cloth merchants etc is known for its seven-storied fortress palace of Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo. This structure is a unique example of 17th century Bundela architecture.
The Govind Mahal or Narsingh Dev Palace is situated on an outcrop of rock overlooking Datia. It is often regarded as one of the finest domestic buildings in India, even though it was never actually occupied, it remains a testament to the architectural accomplishment of the Rajputs. The palace was completed in 1620 and took, as our guide told us, 8 years, 10 months and 26 days to build, at a huge cost of 32,90,980 Rupees, a princely sum in those days. The prime objective for Bir Singh Ju Deo to build this palace was to welcome the Mughal emperor Jehangir for one night on his visit to Orchha & Datia. Incidentally it was Bir Singh who had built the Jehangir Mahal in Orchha for the same purpose. Now, whether Jehangir stayed for one night each in both the palaces is something that nobody is sure of.
The Palace has seven stories with five stories visible & appears much taller than its actual height of 130 ft. 200 metres by 200 metres in dimension, there are a total of 200 steps required to be climbed to reach the top. On reaching the top, one gets great views of the surroundings like this, of the once royal temple beside the royal lake, framed by the latticed windows. There are quite a few of such marvelous windows, each having different designs of the lattices like this one. No wonder that this palace was a favourite of Sir Edwin Lutyens, the man who designed most of British New Delhi.

Hi Angshuman,
The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The latice window is framing well the scenery. The point of view is allowing us to see the details and colors of the houses, buildings and of the mountain. Le light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Wonderful shot Angshu. It has two of my favourite features; natural framing and reflections. The frame is spectacular with the wonderful filigree patterns. Your choice of focal point and DOf couldn't be better as both the window and background are perfectly sharp.

Hi, my friend Angshuman,
A great idea in this composition, using the dark silhouette of these latticed windows, to create an elegant frame about the sight of the lake, the temple and the landscape of this place.
The result is very good, and it increases the beauty of the photo because of the interesting light and the warm tones on all the image.
A beautiful work.
Best regards,
Josep

Hi Angshu
Superb silhouettes & graphism are provided by the fg arch, which also nicely framed the bg scene far below. Excellent colour & sharpness with good skylight reflections in the water. Tfs!

A framing which magnifies the carved screen surrounding the window. Excellent sharpness for the city seen though the opening.

Hi Angshu,
The view itself is already very attractive, looking at it through the such an artistic framing with beautiful designs is like a double delight. Though if an average photogrpapher can over exposed such a pov due to the dark and DoF issue, but not you, this is perfect all is nice and sharp with good symetry even within the frame of the opening you manage a composition within a composition with good placement of the water land and sky, and the tower a little opto the side. Great job, my complements and admiration. Thanks.

Bonjour Angshu.
J'aime cette dentelle noire faite par les ouvertures finement ciselées de la fenêtre. Le paysage semble un tableau dans un cadre ouvragé.
Excellent !

Hi Angshu,
The blue pond and the interesting tower make this one of the nicest of your framed photos. The background really makes the details of the unique carvings stand out.

Hi Angshuman,
normally one already recognizes from the thumbnail the quality of your photos, this one looked a little bit dull but turned out to be surprisingly beautiful when I opened it. An excellent POV, fantastic management of the light and a great note. The atmosphere is amazing and the viewer gets the impression of directly looking out of this window. Congratulation!
Warm regards

Hello Mr. B,
A symmetric perspective, I agree with you, is the best way to present this dreamy scene, and let any asymmetric aspect take place naturally within the frame. Your note, as always, informs and educates. But why did you stop with the "...26 days?" in the specification of the time it took to build the remarkable edifice. What about the hours and seconds. Seriously, it is a superb shot, from your days in Delhi. Indeed, Christmas day in the West.
Warm regards,
Bulent
