Photographer’s Note

Durga Puja, the most happening festival of the Bengalis can be sensed with its spurt of fanfare on all the five days of the festival. This autumnal festival recalls the power of female (Matri) Shakti (Power) symbolized by the Goddess Durga who slays asura (evil) to reestablish peace and sanctity on earth again.

Bengalis all over the world during these days of Durga Puja rejoice to their heart's content reconnecting with friends and relatives. Durga Puja is an occasion when the familiar sound of Dhak, Dhunuchi nachh,the mild fragrance of Shiuli, gives a familiar tug to every Bengali heart.

This picture is of the famous DHUNUCHI NACH (Dhunuchi Dance) performed by a lady in front of the goddess on the Maha Aastami evening.

Pinakie- today itself I was discussing with my office mates abt this particular dance.
Came to know that it is performed all days, but on ashtami, its held as a competition...

Lovely atmosphere here. I can feel the energy (and smoke ;-))...

HI,
Great great capture of one of the most traditional dance in Durga PUja is kolkata.. I like the smokes that created such a beautiful drama in this photograph.. Perhaps it could have been be better if you would have just focused on the lady.. You see I dont find the background very suitable with the object ( kinda disturbances actually , just my point of view you or other may disagree ..) .

A very nice portrait, a scene very well collected. The smok and the harmony of colours are very nice. Good balance in the composition too with the lady well located in the image. An intereting note too.

Hi Pinakie,
Very dunamic view with the smoke and dancer. Low light very well captured. Spectators make a nice colourful background. The boy with quite different clothing brings an element of surprise.
