Photographer's Note

The fort occupies a sandstone and basalt hill about 2.8 kilometres in length at an altitude of 100 metres. At its widest point, the property extends for approximately 800 metres. Fortifications surround the entire plateau. One may enter through the high but narrow stone gate to the northeast in the old town of Gwalior and climbing the steep incline that is the road some 400 metres before reaching the Hathia Paur gate. Foundations for this hill fort were probably laid by a Rajput prince in the 9th century.
