| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This shot was taken in Abkhazia from a viewing place on a road to Ritsa lake.
Sorry for not the best quality of photo - it was scanned from a paper.
Abkhazia is an unrecognized state. In the Soviet time it was a part of Georgia, but after collapse of Soviet Union separated from it after a long and bloody war, in which very significant role was played by Chechen gunmen leading by future terrorist-number-one Shamil Basayev. During that war, just all Georgian inhabitants of Abkhazia (about 55% of the whole population before the war) were exiled (and many were killed) from this land.
Now Abkhazia is de facto independent state. It is not recognized yet by any country, and it is considered as a part of Georgia. |
