There are many (relatively) photos on TE of the Tsminda Sameba Church in Tbilisi but none from its interior. It is new but quite interesting church with many beautiful icons(of course!). And below there is an underground church that looks a bit strange, I imagine the Moscow metro stations look like this.
The characteristic feature of Georgian churches is that there are no places to sit. The people must stand and when the service lasts long it must be hard. here they provided a few chairs for elderly. The older women are usually dressed in black.
Some notes about the cathedral from Wikipedia:
he Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi (Georgian: თბილისის წმინდა სამების საკათედრო ტაძარი Thbilisis cminda samebis sakathedro tadzari) commonly known as Sameba (Georgian: სამება for Trinity) is the main Cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church located in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. Constructed between 1995 and 2004, it is the third-tallest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world. Sameba is a synthesis of traditional styles dominating the Georgian church architecture at various stages in history and has some Byzantine undertones.
The idea to build a new cathedral to commemorate 1,500 years of autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church and 2,000 years from the birth of Jesus emerged as early as 1989, a crucial year for the national awakening of the then-Soviet republic of Georgia. In May 1989, the Georgian Orthodox Patriarchate and the authorities of Tbilisi announced an international contest for the "Holy Trinity Cathedral" project. No winner was chosen at the first round of the contest when more than a hundred projects were submitted. Finally the design by architect Archil Mindiashvili won. The subsequent turbulent years of civil unrest in Georgia deferred this grandiose plan for six years, and it was not until November 23, 1995, that the foundation of the new cathedral was laid. The construction of the church was proclaimend as a "symbol of the Georgian national and spiritual revival" and was sponsored mostly by anonymous donations from several businessmen and common citizens. On November 23, 2004, on St. George's Day, the cathedral was consecrated by Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II and high-ranking representatives of fellow Orthodox Churches of the world. The ceremony was also attended by leaders of other religious and confessional communities in Georgia as well as by political leaders.

I find your commentary very interesting. And the photo is a gem.
A very good insight to the Tbilisi church. The interior is full of colors.
Thanks for sharing. Have a great day!

This is on YouTube, isn't it? It was one of several photos there which I would have liked you to post here. I hope there will be more coming up. Little old ladies usually look nice in photos, especially when surrounded by such fabulous colours and details as here. I was also impressed by this church although I didn't take any pictures inside. I didn't want to disturb the ceremonies in case of a flash.

An interesting and useful note to accompany this well presented composition. The two ladies resting make a fine focal point and look completely at ease. The point of view and the excellent light management shows the decorative detail to best effect.

Very fine image. As Gunnar said, often nice with old ladies, but I also like the contrast between the church and the plastic bag!

This is a super composition with the juxtaposition of the two elderly ladies and the paintings. The picture makes me smile! Very well seen and taken.
Kind Regards, Ann

Very interesting what you've described in the notes, I would think a church would be as accommodating as possible to entice people to come and worship. Anyway, a fascinating little fact to accompany this fine image of these two elderly women taking a moment of rest in this beautiful location. For what first seemed like a relatively minimal amount of subject material, there's actually quite a lot to take in from this shot...and I love this human element within the context of the surroundings. Very well taken...the light, coloring and detail is impressive. Enjoy the new day. All the best.

This is a beautifully decorated church. Congratulation on your light management and steady hands indoors. The characters in this photo are amusing, too, especially the lady in our right. As my wife would say sarcastically, she looks so excited to be there!
