‘Kazbegi - Dark skies over Caucasian hikers paradise’
Yes, another picture on which you see the Church of Tsminda Sameba or Holy Trinity.
I admit, I thought it was fantastic there.
For blue skies in the Caucasus visitors have to get up early. At least in summertime.
In the afternoon a lot of clouds gather in the sky. Even very dark clouds. That doesn’t mean that it will rain.
During my trip through Georgia I had very little rain and the temperatures were always fine. Although in the mountains it becomes quite chilly in the evening.
I believe that in the next few years the number of foreign visitors will increase in Georgia. For most Europeans the country isn’t far away and certainly not expensive. On cultural and scenically level it is quite varied and has visitors much to offer. Also you can eat (and drink!) well in Georgia.
Above all, the country has a very friendly population. For me that’s an important aspect when traveling. I realize that I have not been able to prove this in my pictures. Daily life-pictures are not exactly my specialty although I really would like to improve in this. On TE I find many examples.
Even though I believe that the number of visitors will seriously increase in the near future, the country will never become a major destination for sun worshipers. Just have a look at this picture.
Is this a good thing for the country or not, I honestly don’t know …

Hi Paul. the Albani and call themselves sons of the eagle due to their rugged mountains and gorges and the centuries old battles for independence. I can see that a similar term would be most apt for the sons and daughters of Georgia. what stirring topography and what a wonderful photo which captures the interaction between sky, mountain and land. men of vision and sensitivity had chose a wonderful spot for a church. Thanks for this beauty. Klaudio.

One more photo of this splendid Caucasus landscape in Kazbegi. It really looks fantastic place for hiking. Stunning view and the clouds add a lot to the atmosphere. Marvelous green meadows and high mountains behind. The Tsminda Sameba looks so tiny from this perspective.
I am afraid that in April could be rains from such clouds and in Kazbegi could be also cold. But I am used to every weather, I do not worry.
I have read that Georgians are very hospitable and specially for Poles.
Have a nice week

Beautiful view from the mountain side in Georgia. Like the threatening sky and small spots of blue in between. The various layers captured in this photo is very attractive. From your high POV you have captured the rugged beauty of this place perfectly. Very nice photo with natural light and colours. Thanks for sharing.

Grey clouds in the sky, misty band in the middle of the mountains, the atmosphere is extremely moody. It's a great time to take an excellent picture.

abmdsudi (41152) 2014-03-03 6:46
What a beauty, simply stunning not only in color rendition but the refine elements well put together; the lead-in and the gigantic nature wonder glue the eyes in and lovely low stretching clouds across abv the valley with the dramatic dark brooding clouds above. Touch of bright green fg is valuable in contrast where the church looks so small in front of nature and almost nothing where the majestic mountain range holds everything together nicely. A gorgeous shot indeed and thks for sharing. My compliments.

very fine series from Georgia your are presenting here. I like your composition of the picture and the clouds formation are wonderful.Very well done.TFS.

you and emka plus one more friend of mine from Poland are the evidence that the country is becoming touristically more and more attractive. But you are right -if someone lives in the north and has bad weather on daily basis, plus have limited time and money -I guess such person would choose rather a sunnier destination.
Very dramatic scenery here with literally so many levels. I like especially the lower layer of clouds. Of course the view of the church in the far centre adds something to look forward to.
Excellent reportage, so very useful. If I ever win a lottery I will definitely include Georgia on my list of places to visit.

Hi Paul, great view of this beautiful landscape with high mountains, very well composed and captured by a great pov, in this great and beautiful photography. Interesting picture with very good sharpness, depth, pretty light, color and quality. A great job well done, congratulations. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.
Good evening and happy start to the week.
Best wishes from southern Spain.

I believe this is your fourth picture from the same place, although each one looking very different. Clearly it was difficult to say goodbye to a place like this. The scenery is truly spectacular. I like the separate lower layer of clouds hanging on its own in the valley. Considering the climate in Georgia I had bright sunshine during most of my stay there in late May, early June. I can't recall many clouds at all.
boa (5845) 2014-03-03 12:50
i share your thoughts about this place, it really looks fantastic. I just can imagine how it was to see it in real life! I also believe that countries like Georgia will see an increase of visitors in the future. It is quite easy to reach, much value for your money and a lot to see. People also travel more every year and want to see something more than just a beach resort.
This is a dramatic and beautiful landscape with nice colors and light. The rock in the foreground increase the depth and it is captured from an excellent pov, well done!
Have a nice evening/

Spectacular image. This is for sure a small paradise, I agree on your statement about it.
Have a nice day.

A wonderful composition, while very original with a variety of horizontal stripes in the foreground the green slopes to the monastery, then the depth of the valley, a row of floating clouds, below the steep slopes and large peaks, crowned by the sky with clouds so beautiful, all create an image of highly effective and attractive.
An image with good color.
Splendid sharpness and good light.
Well done. I love it.
Wish you a very nice week.
All the best.

Hello Paul - The Georgian Tourist Board should salute you for bringing so much attention to this wonderful country. Your photographs have whet my appetite and opened up the idea for a possible future holiday. The layers of scenery with the stormy sky bring the location to life. This is so much more exciting than a sunny, cloudless day. Nicely managed contrasting light.
Warm regards Rosemary

I like it.

macjake (53952) 2014-03-06 0:51
sun or no sun, as long as there are large clouds like this it's going to be a haven for photographers!!
these clouds MAKE the scene.
its a fine layered photo, with splashes of green, but again its the cloud formation that wins out.
Royaldevon (27495) 2014-03-06 3:34
With scenery like this, I wouldn't worry too much that you haven't shown us daily life scenes.
I like how you have carefully placed the rock in the f/g, a good anchoring strategy. There are amazing contrasts in light and shadows as we follow the steep valley downwards.
For me, the low line of clouds adds that special touch. It gives the impression that the b/g mountains, stretching above the clouds, are touching the sky.
Thank you for sharing this.
I have enjoyed it.
Have a great day,
mirosu (12754) 2014-03-06 5:01
Marvellous photo. The perfectly lit green hills are the main focal point of this photo. There is a great use of depth of field to hold the viewer in the foreground green meadow, rocks & hills as well as the majestic mountains in BG, and the excellent lighting conditions have allowed for very good color saturation. The overall impact is very strong.
Very well done.
jcpix (12508) 2014-03-06 18:09
An even wider shot this time, and I'm still incredibly fascinated by this locale! The layers of mountains and clouds in this composition are pure delight...all natural, and all fun! :) These have truly been enjoyable to see through your vision, each picture carries its own distinct character and attraction. I could spend hours doing nothing but sitting here and waiting for the next weather pattern to change the scenery for a new photo opportunity. :) Said it before, and I'll say it again...beautiful! Have a great day ahead. Take good care.
rychem (20795) 2014-03-06 22:15
Great! Fantastic landscape and fantastic phenomenon of clouds between the valley and the sky, super
photoray (10935) 2014-03-07 12:10
Kazbegi does indeed look like a "hikers paradise, the sun, shadows and layer of floating clouds enhances the natural beauty of the rolling green hills, distant lofty mountains, then the glimpse of the gothic architecture a top a hill.
Thanks for sharing,

C'est très bien fait, une magnifique photo;

Wow, what a beautiful landscape with a dream view. Good frame, light and clouds. Congratulations!
batalay (35051) 2014-03-09 16:53
This is my favorite of the series of photos you've produced in your visit to Georgia. The expansive view of the valleys, hills and mountains with a layer of clouds wafting though, areas of light and shadows, and the patches of deep blue sky all collaborate to make a superb painting. The mountains still have snow despite the August date.
nikkitta (13921) 2014-03-10 18:22
Like , love this way of presenting the church from so diferent angles, up and down
Here a great composition with the impresive mountains and a cloud at the back, while the valley is illuminated by some sun
It seems not to be a non contaminated place, a free land with no fences but atractive scatered stones
Definitly is a good thing for turist
Very well done
ikeharel (54087) 2014-03-11 5:19
Fabulous phenomenon how the clouds splited and hang over the low area of the trough, Paul.
well collected the sight with green layer, grey, cloud in light grey and high rocky mountains tops on far side, also touched by a more dense clouds.
Fine compo., well done photojob.
*** I was also intrigued by the boxes mentioned - never figured out what the use of it.
jacquest (18385) 2014-03-11 14:44
RhodieIke (11512) 2014-03-11 22:32
I like this shot of this beautiful valley and mountains with the small church in the distance. The clouds are super lying low and it shows how high up you were.
Splendid Dof, great colours, overall a super image, Tfs,
ChrisJ (95080) 2014-03-12 16:58
Spectacular alpine scenery that reminds me of the countryside around Kars and Erzurum. Good sharpness and the hanging horizontal cloud nicely divides the image. The fg rock and bg road and building add depth. Have a nice weekend!
Angshu (55035) 2014-03-17 23:16
This is breathtakingly beautiful, especially with the low clouds and the filtering light. The church is small in the BG & yet significant as a focal point. Fine work with layers. Excellent landscape picture indeed!
ourania (28278) 2014-03-20 13:51
I like very much how this series proceeds with views of the church that are getting wider and more distant in every photo, like in the end of a film or like when we leave a place we love and can't help looking back. I like very much the impressive depth and the elegant and suggestive layers of this photo. The view is magnificent and the cloudy weather has rendered it even more fascinating. The colours are beautiful, I love the unusual contrasts and the silvery greys of the clouds. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,
fanni (14377) 2014-03-26 13:00
what a beautiful view! it looks almost like a painted picture. A bit sombre and yet, very picturesque, with a great depth of landscape.
Excellent composition, like all your photos :)

I love the dark ominous clouds in the BG and the refreshing sunshine in the FG.The mountains and the clouds create a great image.TFS.
