A Georgian shopkeeper resting in the doorway while waiting for customers. I didn't enter the shop but judging from the variety of goods he kept in the street I can only imagine that there was a lot more inside.
This is from a small town called Akhaltsikhe in the southwestern part of Georgia, a short distance from the border with Turkey. Akhaltsikhe, with a population of about 20 000, is the capital of Samtskhe-Javakheti province, a mountaineous area of great natural beauty with magnificent ruins of medieval fortresses adorning many hilltops.
Since I haven't found any earlier pictures of Akhaltsike on Trekearth, except for a few portraits, I will show two views from the town as workshops.

It would be very interesting to browse this shop and examine the wares. But the girl doesn´t seem to be interested at all... The two green arches keep the picture together and there are an abundance of colours and details to enjoy here. Also the WS:s are fine pictures.

Everything for Sale !! Everything below the Cross. Is a colourful illustrative photograph, capturing the mood of the shopkeeper. Very expressive photograph - with sharpness and clarity. Thanks for sharing.

It looks like this man is just selling everything he can lay his hands on. He just ran into a good pack of gloves the other day. But the cross is hanging there for quite a while I guess.Fascinating shop.
Excellent colourfull capture.

One white spot less on TE. Well done. Everytime I see the 'scotish' plastic bags like the one on the left edge of your frame I have to recall a argue with my wife we had about 15 years ago. She went shopping and came back with such a bag. I daid - Oh how can you buy such a cheap plastic waste Made ich China. She said - oh you will see it can be very usefull for shopping or travelling and I replied - no matter how cheap it was you should have better thrown the money directly into the toilet.
Now we still have that bag in our car and use it for shopping from time to time. And it is stil strong enough to carry heavy loads.
I am sute this shopkeeper has many more items Made in China inside - and I wonder if they are still as reliable as our old bag is.

This is quite charaterful part of town with an amazing array of colors and lot of surprises I am sure. But somewhat this gives us the feeling that we have been thrown back in time but I love the atmosphere and slice of life from this former closed-country. This probabaly the hidden part, the rustic walls are authentic but it has a certain charm that make this shot special. Fine shot, TFS.
Excellent infor notes and additional pictures

A decent one-act play could be written with this as inspiration, Gert - the exasperated look on the shopkeeper's face while the customer spends more time on her phone than on the wares. He has, at least, an interesting and attractive storefront, which you've captured and framed well.

Nice photo and it is so you but I kind of prefer the one in the ws with the castle truly magnificent.
You have captured the mood very well.Good composition although i wish the girl was not there!

There's so much to see on this one! I just love the details and the way they are both spending their time while they wait for the customers! A good daily scene! The architecture also seems interesting. In fact, Georgia is rarely seen on TE and the recent posts I've been seeing here give me the idea it must be a very interesting country!
Thanks for the Ws also!

Hi dear Gert, how are you?
Sorry for my late reply, as I have just backed from 5 days trip.
Wow another wonderful shot indeed. Nice close-up the worried shopkeeper via normal appraoch. The surroudings are best match with the main objects. Color and light control are perfect. I guees he wonder no guests coming. Thanks for your sharing with the finest shot and have a good start of a new week! Best regards,

I really like the contrast between the two figures. What does this shop not sell? Wonderful array of colours and textures.

Very nice documentation of the daily life. This reminds me of my old country the Philippines where anybody can just open a small store some in front of their home. Hard way to live but they have to make a living. TFS.

...all kind of everything...
nice square format, good photo from a far, strange world. None of the two persons seems to be bothered by the photographer.

Hello Gert. Waiting for customers. This is a boring thing. And when customers buy something, it's the little things. I am amazed by the diverse range of goods :) Anyway, you skilfully captured this scene with your camera. Rgds, Wolfgang.

I appreciate your Georgia pictures very much. I knew so little of this country and the names of regions and towns sound so exotic. They are linked to your wonderful pictures now which derive from keen observation and sometimes express discreet social comments on the life there. I like very much the comprehensive perspective with which you give us this view loaded with interesting details and information. The presence and postures of the people add to the interest and naturalness of the image. Light management, sharpness and colours are great and contribute to its vividness remarkably. The two workshop pictures are superb too, especially the one of the impressive castle. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

Hello Gert! a beautiful photo daily life! and of this shop and corner I like the composition and the attractive lights the architectural details are splendid, superb colours and the POV is excellent,
kato (11630) 2012-08-14 4:04
You're capturing well this daily life by a good composition, so it's nteresting and impressive to see small shop and many miscellaneous goods currently arranged in in front of a store. A storekeeper seems to be tired since a customer does not come. It is the good work which caught popular everyday life. And, ws expresses the geographical feature of this town well.
Have a nice Tuesday.
icesurfer (530) 2012-08-26 7:40
A very nice composition: lots of different every-day objects, but still the picture is not crowded at all.
I also like how the girl looks away to the right, adding dynamism to an otherwise very static picture.

Charming mini stall selling different items as a flea market, nice colors, clear shot

Hello Gert, I missed this photo from Akhaltsiche. In mean time, also Paul filled this white patch. I have also some photos from there, maybe somewhen I show a few. What this guy sells. We say "soap and jam". The girl (with mobile?) looks very modern.
How time flies, it is already almost two years since you posted it. Always nostalgia feeling when reading the comments of the people that left this site.
Warm regards MAlgo
