Photographer's Note

The title may have made you expect something else, but these women are really Georgian, and they clearly belong to different generations, and there is a gap of a few metres between them.

This is from the Avlabari district of Tbilisi, situated on a hill opposite Old Tbilisi, just across Mtkvari River. I walked this narrow street to reach the magnificent new cathedral Tsminda Sameba (Holy Trinity). The older woman is selling candles for the believers to light in the church. I don't know anything about the younger woman's belief, but she was clearly not dressed for a visit to the cathedral this time.

You can see the new cathedral and its immediate surroundings in workshops.
