‘Tbilisi - Abanotubani, a blend of Europe and Asia’
The district Abanotubani in Tbilisi has a special charm of its own, a bit a blend of Europe and Asia.
In this district there are many public bathhouses that use the sulphurous waters of hot springs in the area. Some of these bathhouses date back to the 17th century.
The building with the blue-tiled façade and two short minarets, constructed in the late 17th century, is the Orbeliani Bathhouse. Its exterior is the most beautiful of all bathhouses in Tbilisi and looks a little central asian. See also the picture in the workshop.
Too bad during our visit of Tbilisi it was closed for renovations.
Most houses in this district also have very nice balconies.

Perfectly titled, Paul.
This corner in town, over the bridge looks as on right side is Europe and farther to left is like shirnes we see from the "stan" countries in near Asia.
Well combined on photo, good view of the blue domes and mosaic covered facade.

Heel mooie samenstelling, vlotte presentatie.
Mooi gedaan, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,

Un bel endroit que l'on ne voit pas très souvent sur TE. Le point de vue est excellent et nous montre très bien l'architecture et les couleurs locales. L'ensemble est d'une grande netteté.

really a nice composition. The blending of architecture styles of Asia & Europe can be seen clearly in your shot. Good details of those. Nice colour contrast. Very good work. Tfs.

This architecture can not be real, almost like a fairy tale. Original and beautiful photo, fantastic colors and great depth

The rough unadorned functional bridge leading to the mosque contrasts well against the ornate exterior decorations adorning the facade. Good sharpness and I like the repetition of the arches both in the fg bridge resembling a Roman aquaduct and the bg mosque. A nice warm cold color contrast between the pink building at right and the blue mosque facade. The inclusion of some green bg hills nicely breaks up the urban landscape of tightly packed buildings. Tfs!

Ciao e buona serata

Your chosen title sums it up best! :) The pastel colors combined with the detailed design are a most pleasing mixture, and I really like how you've included a small portion of the background landscape to show some natural and contrasting tones. There's a lot to take in here, especially as I look for the subtle nuances and influences of each continent contained within the architecture and overall content presented. This must be a fascinating place to explore, a relatively uncommon locale featured here. This has already been a wonderful series, and I hope it continues! Thanks for sharing this corner of the world. Have a great day ahead.
All the best,

Indeed, it's a pity you could not visit Orbeliani bathhouse, but when you will come back to Tbilisi preferably in a winter time you could try the renovated baths :). One of the bath rooms was favourite to A. Pushkin, who wrote that he has never experienced something more charming than baths in Tbilisi. I usually go there in the wintertime with my friends to have massage and get warm.
Very nice composition and colours.

macjake (45588) 2013-09-07 3:10
wow, there's alot going on in this photo!
I really like how the subjects take up the entire frame, no waisted spaces.
and of course the bath house steals the show, but I also enjoy that arched bridge.
lots to see and appreciate here.
too bad it was closed

You're capturing well this place by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the public bathhouse as Mosque and the stone bridge with tasteful shape. It's also impressive in the front of the bathhouse with a geometric beautiful pattern, blue side outer wall and the pretty towers of the roof. And, it's interesting that there are crowded buildings aside the bathhouse and steep cliff in back.

a very effective description of this part of the town, full of interest and character, I like very much the perspective around which you've organized your comprehensive and elegant composition. The tight frame has exalted the interaction and impact of this rich assortment of architectural patterns and details. I also like the alternation of textures and colours and the excellent clarity that enhances the vibrancy of this charming urban setting. The workshop pictures are very fine too, especially the discreet and effective way in which you took us to the heart of this neighbourhood. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,

it`s a real joy to view such lovely architecture from a most interesting location, the clear light has displayed all the details perfectly.
Really nice photography.
mcmtanyel (5249) 2013-09-11 5:55
Indeed, the building looks like it belongs in Uzbekistan. Your photo has good DOF, I can see and appreciate the lacework on the wooden balconies behind the main subject. Do you have any information on its history? It is not usual for bathhouses to have minarets, was it a mosque at one time?
adramad (30925) 2013-09-12 14:47
Once back from my vacation at the beach, I'm active again in these pages.
A marvel of composition in this sensational POV, showing us the beautiful mosque surrounded by beautiful buildings marked very special style, these arcs of foundation in the foreground, bringing charm to the image.
Very nice range of colors.
Superb brightness and sharpness.
I wish you a good day.

Looks like a mosque! I really like this Iranian architecture and I guess it's the first time I'm seeing this place. Good pov and details. I like it with this old bridge in foreground. Seems an interesting place, surrounded by rocks!

mkamionka (27073) 2013-09-29 12:26
beautiful architecture. I like very much the bath house in typical Muslim style, the balconies indeed add some more charm. This is truly an extraordinary place and very photogenic it seems. You did a great job advertising it here. Great POV which allowed you to squeeze so many interesting elements like the bridge etc.
Angshu (52890) 2013-10-08 0:48
As you mentioned, the blue tiled artwork on the bathhouse facade is definitely Central Asian...It stands in close proximity with the houses with hanging balconies which perhaps echo Mediterranean architectural style. The bridge with deep arches creates a good perspective & lead-in.
maloutim (9473) 2013-10-16 17:24
Indeed a very interesting picture of these close-knit buildings, situated just at the foot of what looks to be a cliff in the country-side !
A nice hotch-potch of different architecture with the beautiful mosque-like bath-house, just by the old bridge where are "written" the different civilizations.
I have a guess it might date back to the Romans ?
Lovely houses and balconies indeed ! I like your WS with the little minarets against the graceful balconies.
I also notice one house is not finished. I wonder if it's like in some Mediterranean countries where people don't finish their houses in order not to pay tax !
Thanks for sharing.

I'm always fascinated by the architecture of Mid-east. The tile-works are amazing. I saw them in Turkey. It's an unforgettable experience. But the combination of different architectures in a single place is something unique. Thanks for showing us.

hi paul. when i was there, that area was under construction, and it still seems to be so. you have a nice view and light to accompany your photo. in general, tbilisi was a very different city. i am sure i'll go there again one day (waiting for the construction works to end, hehe)
