Photographer's Note
This is the view from the rooftop restaurant and bar of the hotel where I was staying in Tbilisi a few months ago. The hotel was situated at the edge of a steep hill overlooking the Old town. The nearest church, undergoing restorations just like most major buildings in the city, is the 13th century Metekhi Church. I have earlier shown a couple of interiors from that church. This was one of them.
Further back, on the slopes of the Sololaki ridge, you can see the walls of the mainly 8th century Narikala fortress and inside it the Church of St Nicholas. The church was destroyed by an explosion in the 19th century and rebuilt in recent years.
Below the hill, to the left, is a mosque from the late 19th century, probably the only still functioning mosque in the Georgian capital.
Below the nearest hill, not visible here, is the Mtkvari River. On the other side of the river you can see the spectacular Old town of Tbilisi, stretching further north (to the right from this angle) for some distance.
I have added two more views from this hotel as workshops.

Hello Gert,
the way we got familiar with this interesting city, little by little and through mostly unpredictable and original points of view is superb. This (as well as the first picture of the workshop)is wonderful and comprehensive. The structures, vegetation and details we find all over give us valuable information about the character of this place, old elements mingling with new ones. The bright light and the vivid colours make the view delightful and comfortable. Your notes are very enlightening too. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,
Ourania

Hej Gert,

What a wonderful addition to the series you have going in Tbilisi, Gert - no question this would make a beautiful postcard, with its line of medieval walls and towers and another dominating the FG. I'd decied long ago that I want to travel to the Caucasus region, but your photos have helped promote it up the list.

Hi Gert, Interesting set of photos. Beautiful postcards and interesting note to it. The both churches look very similar, but this father has impressive fine walls around it. I like this unusual bridge in WS. And there is a strange monument on the right, something like huge statue.
Excellent presentation of Old Tbilisi.

Hej Gert
Postcard fits this photo perfectly. I never realized that Tblisi was set in such nice surroundings, so another lesson learnt here on TE. This is a wonderful view over the old city and the surounding hills.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Gert
I like the angle you have chosen which works well against that sky. It looks close enough to the buildings near the fg but the placement of the prominent Church is so vital and effective being the main puller into this scene, full of contents of a cute small historic town surrounded by soothing lush greenery. Exposure is fine given the conditions with very fine clarity and colors rendering much definition to the scene. This is competent piece of work, every inch is productive and a pleasure to view.
Tks to the infornotes and additional pictures guiding us through. Well done, TFS
Warm regards

Hello Gert
A nice high POV which provides a sweeping view of the city. I am quite struck with the similarity between the Metekhi church in the FG & the Narikala fortress in the BG. The entire town nestles well on the hill slopes. Well done!
Best Regards
Angshu
