‘Kazbegi - Goodbye Georgia’
And for a fifth (and very last) time the Church of Tsminda Sameba seen from a different POV and with another background. Herewith I want to show you the Georgian fondness to build their churches on spectacular locations.
This is the view you have at the arrival in the village of Kazbegi (also called Stepantsminda) and looking westward.
The church and its belltower are situated at an elevation of 2.170 meters.
Mount Kazbegi is 5.047 meters (or 16.558 ft). It’s the 3rd highest peak in the country (Mount Shkhara and Janga are still higher) and the 7th highest in the entire Caucasus.
The best views of the mountain are early in the morning. In the afternoon, the mountain is often in the clouds.
With this picture I end my series on Georgia. I hope you enjoyed it … and it wasn’t too lengthy … :)
During the past months I have posted 93 pictures of Georgia (of which 40 as main photo and 53 in the workshops).
It’s the first time that I posted so many pictures of one journey. This is because I found that Georgia deserves quite a bit more attention.
By no means this series covers the whole territory of the country. There are a lot of other places to visit. I haven’t been at the Black Sea coast and in the far east of the country I’ve visited only one place. Most of all, I regret that I hadn’t enough time to see the David Gareja monastery complex near the border with Azerbaijan.
Perhaps Malgo will visit David Gareja. Within a few weeks a new series on Georgia will start. I'm curious to see what Malgo will show us.
Good luck Malgo!

Wonderful details that were so beautifully photographed by you!
Special regards to the colors and composition!
The snow covered peak, the low clouds and their contrast with the buildings are true highlights here!
TFS - congrats,

Wonderful mountains landscape photo. The light and colors are terrific, the arrangement with the stone church on the green hill and the majestic white mountain in BG is superb. The contrast against blue sky is excellent.
Very well done
Wish you a nice Sunday.

Bravo.

wonderful mountain you captured.this composition is excellent.
krzychu30 (15510) 2014-03-08 23:07
a little bit different approach than your previous shots, but I have to admit the close-up presetation works here really well.It has especially excellent influence on graphics of the image.Love the combination of three dominating colors-blue,white and green.
Have a nice sunday

I saw many photos from your gallery from different countries and indeed, Georgia is so well represented:). Fantastic series of photos. I know about David Gareja but I am not sure if I will manage to see it. I am afraid I will have not time for everything I would like to see. And probably the weather will not be so good. I am not pessimist but realistic :).
Fantastic view of Kazbeg and St. Trinity Church. I can't wait to see it :)
I am looking forward to see someyour Armenian photos, specially Tatev.

fascinating your setries from this beautiful country with the last one to be so exciting and unique. The snowy Mt. on the backdrop looks like as a huge human head during its eternal sleeping, looking the church of Tsminda Sameba,on the hill.I like the great contrast of the colours, the excellent presentation with the travel you did to saw us the beauties of Georgia.
Have a good Sunday,Danos

beautiful p.o.v. the Church is so little compared to the big mountain behind.
williewhistler (15443) 2014-03-09 3:16
thanks for your recent series of photographs from Georgia, they have all been fascinating as indeed is this view of the tiny church amongst the most spectacular of landscapes.
Tree lined slopes and snow capped mountains all shrouded in mist and cloud beneath a clear blue sky, there is so much to savour and enjoy,it`s a simply stunning scene.
Kindest regards Les.

Goed foto werk, bedankt.
Prettige zonnige zondag,

This is a marvellously scenic place from every angle. The only POV I still haven't seen is from straight above, so when they start arranging balloon-rides here you will have to go back. Now I expect to spend the next month or so in your company in Armenia.

Subhogen (4067) 2014-03-09 6:40
That mountain seems to appear appear out of nowhere. I like the way the squashed perspective makes it look like looming large over the church atop the green hill. Truly majestic sight! Great contrast between the green hills and the lofty snow covered peak. The clouds floating low add a lot to the composition as well. Well seen and taken, thanks for sharing.
ikeharel (62159) 2014-03-09 7:33
Good evening Paul,
The snowy cup of this magnificent mountain, over the green hills, looks as an imaginary big bear sitting, my imagination works O/T...
Marvelous perspective with good contrast and a bright moment it was, as I see a passing low cloud above the trough.
Kamilutka (8105) 2014-03-09 7:48
beautiful picture and so masterly taken. The POV couldn't have been better: the green hills on which the monastery is sitting contrast wonderfully with the snow capped peaks in the background. Lush colors and very great light. The mist adds to the whole image.
I like it a lot!

Ciao e buona domenica

i understand from your photos that Georgia was a very interesting, and beautiful destination! The church in this picture is located in wonderful surroundings. The mountain in the background is really something extra, especially in contrast with the green hill. Attractive composition and an interesting note, tfs!
ps.I am looking forward to visit this region in the future. Thanks for your nice series of photos from this place!

Splendid finale to this wonderful series on Georgia, with which I have enjoyed with these fabulous places previously unknown to me.
A stunning image with high top, reddish rock that we see through the snow, beautiful contrast to the green slopes we see more in the foreground, crowned with such a fantastic church, located in a place of the most remote.
An image to enjoy, with its beautiful colorful, high brightness and perfect sharpness.
Very well done.
Happy start to the week.
federico (3106) 2014-03-09 16:25
hi paul, I really like this one, the contrast between the small church and the huge snowy mountain is awesome and inspiring, it make me really want to go there and have this wonderfull view for me
sandpiper (6788) 2014-03-10 0:37
Great view of this wonderful church and snow-capped mountain. Great composition
Oceania (5174) 2014-03-10 6:56
This is another beautiful picture from Georgia. The snowcapped mountain contrasts with green slopes nicely. The church is so small. That tells us the grandness of the mountains.
chrislo (4155) 2014-03-10 15:56
photoray (13442) 2014-03-11 17:40
In this different position, the Church of Tsminda Sameba appears like a refuge or 'base camp' within the surrounding mountains, the green landscape in the foreground, and the snowy craggy mountain backdrop.
Certainly a worthy place to saunter to.
Thanks for sharing,
nikkitta (16476) 2014-03-11 20:00
The last photo is, as the precedents quite well taken and presented, green hills at the front, the church as main atraction and the imposing mountains at the back
In the last photos the inclusion of snow and clouds made them ALL quite atractive
Quite agree with you, Geogia quite deserves your attention and informative notes
Very well done
rychem (27534) 2014-03-11 23:20
Impresstive photo of this snow covered mountain, it looks like a head of an old, wise man, and both buildings are simply tiny, perfect clarity and depth
willperrett (8017) 2014-03-12 1:25
You've had Georgia on your Mind for a while now, and have been mining a very rich seam! This is as spectacular as any. The church towers, small in the frame, make an impact out of all proportion to their size, though the mountainous scenery would be impressive enough on its own.
ChrisJ (103617) 2014-03-12 17:12
I've enjoyed this series, with the majestic snowcapped mountains and amazingly perched churches in precarious positions in the hills. Good sharpness and nice warm cold color contrasts between the yellow green grass and blue sky. Tfs!
fabbs99 (16815) 2014-03-13 0:47
Awesome colors and tone in this image of the mountains.Very well captured with good lighting. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.
mkamionka (32367) 2014-03-13 9:59
one more spectacular presentation of this interesting church. Each photo is so different presenting a completely new view of this place. The huge snow covered mountain makes a wonderful background. The sky cleared up with some clouds adding a touch of mystery.
I think everyone would agree that you can always break your promise and return to photos from this still underrepresented on TE country.
Excellent work, it was a fantastic reportage!
Where do you go next?
COSTANTINO (59299) 2014-03-14 12:05

Thumbs up! Fantastic view! I am not big fan of the mountains but I really love this photo, so attractive composition, outstanding colors. TFS!

Bonjour PAul ,
Angshu (56462) 2014-03-20 22:30
Amazing picture which works wonderfully in different levels. This church may have one of the best locations possible for a church anywhere in the world...the snow capped Mount Kazbegi with a roundish top creates a fine background...Amazing place & a fine shot!
Your Georgia 'album' has beena treat...thanks so much for sharing with us!
adores (40428) 2014-04-05 8:52
No matter how many photos of this place you post, it's a wonderful place. The church, the location... it's simply perfect and this is another great pov, the church seems so small compared to nature and the little clouds add a lot. Great shot!
jemaflor (88825) 2014-04-08 22:57
kato (11630) 2014-05-07 23:20
You're capturing well this landscape by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the contrast between the surface of mountains with lush green and snowy mountain in back. It's also impressive to see the church at the peak of mountain. And, floating clouds in highland draw out a good atmosphere.
jmdias (58552) 2014-06-12 16:10
another impressive landscape, the contrast between the red of the peak and the snow is fantastic. at same time site of the small church near of the giant is impressive. very beautiful compo. congratulations for your images and TFS these views with us showing this not so visited place.
