Photographer’s Note
On the open deck of a boat in the Yangtze at Chongqing - not so much going on but for the spectacle of the night time lit city as a backdrop and the genteel to-ing and fro-ing between the restuarant and the bar........the flash of the odd camera for a group portrait and the occasional passage of another boat! ........but some people seem to be able to generate energy and great excitement at the drop of a hat .....this young lady, working as an intern for the British Council in Chongqing was one of those people ........just had to capture her against the night sky!

Hello Kev,
I love this little b&w portrait of they young woman on the Yangtze. One suggestion — in the spirit of a minor constructive criticism — would be to crop the image so that the vertical centerline passes through the subject's right eye. It was discovered by the British born psychologist/neurophysiologist, Christopher Tyler, that in almost all defining portraits by the masters — Leonardo's Mona Lisa, Rembrandt's numerous portraits (of himself and of others), Van Gogh's... — centerline passes through an eye (or within 5% of the eye). You come close to that here. It's a principle that is never taught, not even known, but intuitively practiced by the master. (I touched this subject in both of my recent books on Leoanrdo.) In any event, this is a wonderful capture that immediately pulls you into the portrait.
Warm regards,
Bulent
