Photographer's Note

The Pilgrimsí Route circles the Tibetan part of town, the well worn path featuring a large number of prayer wheels housed in covered walkways. The upright cylindrical drums are elaborately painted in red and gold and are spun in a clockwise direction as the devout walk past chanting prayers. There are many hundreds of prayer wheels on the three kilometre trail and they are kept spinning continuously by the constant stream of local people following the route. All manner of individuals join the flow, from the young novice monk in his dark red robe gaily bounding around the circuit to the old woman hunched over a crooked stick, barely able to shuffle her ancient frame from one wheel to the next.
