[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I show this picture of the Potala palace in Lhasa as a tribute to the Tibetan nation, whose precarious situation is once again catching the world's attention.
The Potala, built during the second half of the 17th century and incorporating parts of a palace from the 7th century, was the official residence of the Dalai Lama and the headquarters of the Tibetan government before the Chinese occupation in 1950.
There is no way I would sympathize with the reactionary, feudal theocracy that ruled Tibet, but that was half a century ago and it should have been up to the Tibetans themselves to modernize and hopefully democratize their country.
This picture from 1986 was scanned from a Kodachrome slide.

Hej Gert,
An excellent composition of this very impressive building! Good colours but most of all, a very fine and well balanced composition.

Beautiful picture and very honest comment. The scan is of good quality and I am glad you posted it in that diffcult period for Tibet. I perfectly agree with you. Whatever was their conditions before, they have to choose by themselves. Very good jone, Geraldine

Hej Gert,
quite amazing about how fast news are coming and going, last week there was a real hullabaloo in tibet Xiang and Ganzu today the media seems to have their binocular somewhere els, no matter what happens, and how many still remember Burma 5 month later.
maybe we should talk more about those things in TE and not be so damned cowardly and just saying "very good POV"
anyway my friend
It's a very good photo of the palace with the prayer flags in FG and a dramatic grey sky.
I actually tryed to get in to Lhasa in 1984 but it wasn't possible.

Hi Gert. An impressive building which you have photographed from an excellent POV. The composition is good with the tattered prayer flags in the foreground, although I would have preferred to see the Potala a little higher in the frame so that it wasn't quite so centred. There's a fair bit of noise in the sky, but I suppose we shouldn't complain about that given that the slide from which you have scanned this is over 20 years old - in that respect the technical quality is pretty good. Cheers . . . David

Great PoV, nice perspective and beautiful colours! The cloudy sky is attractive and helps the exposure. Very good scanning with fine details. Historical place!
Thank you for sharing my friend.
Warm regards,
Athanasios.
