[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The suburb of Sha Tin is Hong Kong's prime example of a budding satellite town, with a population around 640,000. Fewer than 13km (8 miles) north of Tsim Sha Tsui, it's also home to a modern horse racetrack with a seating capacity of over 85,000, as well as a huge shopping mall called the New Town Plaza and Asia's first Snoopy's World outdoor playground.

Sha Tin New Town comprises mainly residential areas along the banks of the Shing Mun River Channel. In the early 1970s it was a rural township of about 30,000 people. After Sha Tin's first public housing estate, Lek Yuen Estate, was completed in 1976, the settlement began to expand.

The Hong Kong Government used to showcase Sha Tin as an achievement in building a modern new town. Visiting foreign dignitaries were often invited to tour Sha Tin and its housing estates.

Sha Tin was the second batch of satellite towns, or new town, to be built in the New Territories, on land reclaimed from the sea.

This photo was taken from almost the same point as this one, Suburbian Hong Kong. From the outside the area does not appeal very much as an attractive residential area with its monotone grey colors as can be seen here and in my previous photo from this area. In a way this also seems to be reflected in the faces of these two young people.

Hey Harko,

A wonderful documentary, and a nice shot. Its very symmetrical and well composed. With great clarity and depth of view. Sharpness is also on par, so are the colors, though there are not many of them, its a good thing there are brightly colored people in the shot. :)

Enjoy.

Hej
Harko
Anders

Hello Harko,
I like the graphical impact from the building complex in the back!
Good lead-in and a great feeling of depth, the composition is well balanced and with sharp fine details...
Greetings,

:-) OK-

Hi Harko, excellent title on this one, and those sharp white buildings really support you. Great view into this suburb, by viewing it over the bridge. The couple walking towards you with shopping bags give it a personal touch.

Thanks, John

Hi Harko,
The view on the HK typical housings i sinteresting and the people add some humanity to these blocks, but I think the photo lacks a bit of light.
Have a nice day JY

Excellent composition with this couple very well positioned, the city lights a bit old fashioned and the buildings behind. Great feeling. Very well caught.
