If you want to get some good shots of Shanghai then you need to get up very early. It was almost 7:00am when I got this shot and I had already been wondering around for more than an hour.
The Bund at this time of day is a totally different place, the tourists still haven't left their hotel rooms so the hawkers and street venders are not about to bother you.
All you see at this hour are the locals practicing their tai chi, flying their kites, walking their dogs or, like this man, taking a bike ride along the Bund to watch the sun rise over the city. It seems as if this is the time when locals can reclaim their city.

Hi Terry. An excellent composition with a lot of emotive impact. The sole biker and the sun above the new buildings in Pudong works well. I like very much to wander along the Bund when the chance is there, but the normal crowds detract, so i dream of being at this place on an uncrowded time. Beautiful cropping. TFS. Murray.

A very harmonious composition with beautiful, soft colours. The haziness looks great, even though it may be one of the consequences of pollution.
