[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One of my favourite places in Chongqing has to be the area around the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute - another image on my series of these artists - in this case an MA student - whose work seems to have some strong self-referential feel through this photograph....I guess that's what attracted me to suggest she stand or stoop in front of it.......

Who knows where this next generation of Chinese artists will go - the previous cadre are busy selling work hand over fist and breaking into wider international markets.....those whose art more openly challenges and protests have to find some level of support through their own efforts to earn a living in other ways and thus not depend on state approval........so many in this new generation are taking on and reflecting change but in increasingly subtle or fantasy orientated ways.........the stories will come out in the end..........it's interesting to talk privately with these young people....

this is a very cool portrait kev! i would have indeed guessed even without your note that there may be some connection between her and the painting... i even love here posture, just like on the painting (wonder if the pose was intentional...)

Hello Kev. The photo is beautiful, even if one did not read the text yet. Altogether a worth seeing photographic achievement . Best regards, Wolfgang.

Great background Kev! Somehow, it goes very well the the artist skin tone and clothes. It gives a great balance to the whole frame. The painting itself is very beautiful. I like the smile of the girl. Some people complain about smiling in a portrait but I like it. Happiness never tires me. Very nice.

I love the way you captured her, Kev. She is unaffected, slightly shy, and expresses a wealth of what goes on in her painting behind. The colours are vivid and beautiful and it is great to see the immense talent you show us from China... I have also seen a documentary that just opened my eyes at the boiling creative expression there... lovely shot!

hello Kev,

beautiful colours and spontaneous compo. i like it very much ! great portrait of the girl.
greetings, inn

Hi Kev,

The first time I saw this, I was thinking about Wolfgang's shots of Documenta! Could fit his series as well! Very interesting work of art as well. I do miss a bit of contrast in her face, but I know expressions and skin tones can be quite difficult with Chinese people.

Thanks for sharing!
Dennis

Great shot, peced together with consummate skil and yes, a PAINTER'S eye - I think I know what I'm saying here... Her head among virtual heads, it takes a special eye to "see" that.
Bravo, Kev.
