Photographer's Note

Here is another view of Chanadorje, one of Yading's three sacred peaks, taken during the summer of 2006, as the Sun was going down, and the glacier evaporated.

Sublimation is the process of passing from a solid to a gaseous state without first going through being a liquid, and that's what's going on here; the ice and snow is coming straight off the mountain and turning into clouds. Another definition comes from psychoanalysis, where, according to Answers.com, sublimation is:

"a process that diverts the flow of instinctual energy from its immediate sexual aim and subordinates it to cultural endeavours."

I thought this to be quite pertinent to Yading's status as a holy site for Tibetan Buddhists, and if one is sufficiently inspired while observing Nature's spectacle in this wonderland, this second type of sublimation may also be something that's going on...

Technically, I know that the photo is imperfect. The greatest problem lies in exposure, where the glaciated part of the mountain is overexposed. I was unable to correct this to a satisfactory degree in post-production, and I thus decided to leave it, and concentrate on modifying the rest of the image.
