A Story of the Re-unification of the Sun Bird Foil
The area around Chengdu - the capital city of Sichuan is home to many interesting things......the largest captive breeding programme in the world for Giant and Red Pandas, the Sichuan Opera and the ancient civilisation of Chu.
In an impressive and ever growing museum complex just outside Chengdu this civilisation is celebrated in style. What surprises were in store! Last year I was able to vist the west coast of Canada twice and visit and see many examples of First Nation's art - carvings, masks and images.......I am also familiar with much in the way of Indian art south of the American/Mexican border - encountering such strong visual/stylistic referrential links with the art of the indigenous bands, tribes and civilisations of the Americas and this mysterious and lost civilisation was just astounding!
The links with these discoveries - much still awaits to be unearthed - and the city was also marked. The finds have become an important part of Chengdu's identity and projection out into the world. A performance company has been formed to tell a mythical and highly embellished tale of the greatness and tragedy of this situation in the form of a musical.
In this image an archeologist - seen right - unwittingly stumbles across the site of the ancient city and awakens the spirits dormant within it....at first he is unaware of their presence but a breakthrough occurs and suddenly he is enmeshed in a tale of love and war of spectacular proportions. I can honestly say that I have never seen a stage performance like it.........remarkable and ...well, just so different! |

Hey Kev!
Superb decisive moment you captured here, impressive catch, good shutter speed to stop that spittle of gasolin! The composition is full of energies and action, very effective with good exposure control!
Well done!
Chen
hi kev,
absolutely crazy photo, initially i felt sort of puzzled with the number of things that were going on in this photo, but then i find it a freak, crazy moment captured and every single detail adds to this "madness" a lot...

This one's a beauty... it's really different, I feel that invigorating culture shock...
Why didn't you go wide for this? The available light? Probably it was, but I really wanted to see this painting over a larger canvas. The cropped guy in the right asks for it. It's a great exposure like it is. I am not going to praise the camera once again nor the photographers ability with it (that's settled now). I prefer to stress your ability as a story teller. And what a narrative. Sincerely thanks!
Beautiful capture , great scene and extremely nice exposure and colours , really well done , compliments.
Stefano.
Wow what an amazing looking show and amazing photograph. So much energy in the shot Kev, normally these type of scenes have at least one person or spectator in the background with a bored look on their face, but everybody here is adding something to the show. Great colour for a night time shot as well.
