The name "Shangril_la" is firstly appeared in a novel called "The Lost Horizon" written by James Hilton in early 1930.

4 people including the English consul to India, kidnapped by an unidentified pilot, were finally reached after long flight at a high altitude strange place near Kunlun mountain range in present China, which runs eastwards along the northern part of the Tibetan plateau to form the border range of northern Tibet.
They were invited by kind people to a special Tibetan temple called "Shangri-la" and well treated. But after some days passed the leader of the kidnapped group finally realized that their visiting of the "Shangri-la" was not by accident but by an intention of the temple for finding the successor of "Shangri-la" where one can live more than 200 years enjoying the hidden wealthy of the place. Shangri-la is often compared with "Utopia", the paradise on earth...

Despite that 70 years passed since the novel was reported, Chinese provincial government have changed the name of a certain area into "Shangri-la" in late 2002 after an exploration for finding the same place as appeared in the novel.
The average altitude of this place is about 3,800m above sea level and about 300km away from Zhongdian, Yuinan province.

I visited the place in late October, 2006 when the foests changed the color to yellow and red. Though suffered from altitude sickness at times, I could enjoy every minute of it of the breathtaking views and the unique culture of the ethnic people of Tibet in the area.

Hi JS!

Such a great composition! I love the colours appearing on your image, which contrasts with the white shades of the snow mountains!

Cheers!
Miguel

Hi Lee
Stunning shot, clear and superb ambience.
Really a splendid place!

Hi friend,
What a lovely view here. This white mountain is impressive and contrast very well with the colours of those trees. This nice blue sky reflected on the water is another great detail.
Thanks for your note and well done!
