Photographer’s Note
The town of Shangri-La is famous for the Southern Silk Road. This road started in Sichuan province to the north, crossed Yunnan province and continued on to Vietnam.
The old town is not very big and all houses in old town are made of wood. The center of the town is the market square, where you will find some stalls selling typical Tibetan food. Most wooden houses have become souvenir shops, cafés or restaurants. Shops sell Tibetan handicrafts, clothes and postcards. This part of the city is pedestrian only. A visit to the old town of Shangri-La will take you between one and two hours. The town is so small that you do not even need a map.
This giant prayer wheel pic taken at the end of Shangri-la old town, it is about 25 feet wide, a local Tibetan woman told me about if I want my prayer to come true I have to roll the giant wheel according to my age and plus 3 rounds, obviously I can't make it due to it needs atleast 4 adults to roll it, and I am 35 + 3 rolls, but wo do help some children to make it, me, two swedish, one Chinese , two locals, and 3 to 4 childrens, me make a total of 13 rounds.
