Photographer’s Note
From the LP guidebook:
Located in the north-west of the city centre, the original Summer Palace was laid out in the 12th century. Resourceful Jesuits were later employed by Emperor Qianlong to fashion European-style palaces for the gardens, with elaborate fountains and baroque statuary.
During the Second Opium War (1860), British and French troops destroyed the palace and sent the booty abroad.

The Old Summer Palace is seldom visited in comparison to it's much more famous twin: the Summer Palace. I went there with my g/f last winter, and we soon found out why. Aside from a few piles of rocks, the odd column and this lake there is not much there. After about an hour we had had enough so we went to the new Summer Palace instead.

Yes, it loks a bit miserable. Good capture, makes me feel cold just looking at it. FOreground works well to create the atmosphere.

I like the composition in two parts, separated by the lane.
And the background a little bit misty gives a very strange and smooth atmosphere.
The sharpness and monochromical tone are excellent.
Interesting note.
A very nice pic, thank you Josh !

great shot of the summer palace, I think I went to the one which was totally recontructed and it looked better than this one which I think is the original one.
Great capture here Josh, I like the shot alot, it tells us many things like the sadness and coldness of the place, the people looking down whilst walking too show sadness too
Well captured
