Photographer’s Note
-little experiment #2-
You see lines everywhere and you see more lines as you step out of the Airport Express Train.
Below are arrivals. The departing people could be seen at the top. This "new" airport on Lantau Island replaced the infamous Kai Tak @ 1998. It's still relatively modern and has been voted several times as the best in the world.
*Have I overdone it? I hope not!
You can see the more 'conventional' version in the workshop posting :)
Any comments would be most welcome :)
note update:
*Thanks all who have commented on this!
I think this is a successful experiment in a sense that it demonstrates how different everybody's perspectives are, even though it isn't accepted by all.
Well, I always think that art has no boundaries.
If you dislike the picture a lot plz don't hesitate to tell me. It'd be nicer to tell me than to leave no message :)
Cheers!

An interesting experiment Cheuk, but I have to say I prefer the horizontal version. Must be a reflection of my conventional tastes.
There's a great use of line and shadow here, and its made for a very contrasty and graphic image.
Its making me feel a little dizzy though; I'll look at the other version. Aaah, thats better.
Cheers,
Ben

my dear cheuk,
most probablly it is going to be a matter of personal taste but i find this image not a bit too much, i find it completely beyond my acceptance;
i personally do not find any reason why you have done so (i'm sure there was one, but i do not see it instantly after looking at this image);
for the main pic - no smiley, if only i could value the ws version i'd grant more than two smileys,
best wishes, j.

H i Che Uk!
It's ... hard to make peo ... ple feeeell please!d and ... queasy at the same time...
But I'm with you, upside down if it doesn't fall, and off board go the upset ones!
On this one the echoes are enough, and enough numerous to justify, if not achieve, the research of a swinging door, or the barrel of a washing-machine (dunno if it's the right word :)
You had to expect few yeepees by your agitated POV on the architecture renewal question. Hang firm!!! We're coming to rescue you!

Hi Cheuk-Hin. Sorry but I think the rotation is a gimmick (Wikipedia definition of gimmick: "a special feature for the sake of having a special feature"); the original version would have been perfectly fine - in fact it is a rather stunning perspective photo with a fine graphical rhythm provided by the grid of shadows that the sunlight creates as it falls into this winter-garden type of corridor. The people are well distributed, too, and bring a lively feel.

Sorry, but I prefer the horizontal version too. The graphic lines on the image are good as is the decision to go with sepia; the light/shade contrasts are superb, but the orientation is a step too far for my taste. I'm wondering if you are pushing to see how far you can go and still get lots of positives. You are very talented and experimentation is good, but...this time...

I don't play the points/smiles game; everyone gets the same. (or none if I run out)

Definitely, I do prefer the normal and natural view of this world. I can not imagine people walking on walls or ceilings!!! So I am only commenting on the WS version. It is quite good even if it is over tilted as well. But I like the lines converging on the background as well as I like that most of the people is on the left side of the frame. It makes a good composition. The choice of the B&W and good as it creates a nice contrast of colours.

Hey Cheuk,
Harsh crowd today for this experiment huh? You do have cojones though, I'll give you that. Oddly enough, you lost me a bit on "Moths" but are winning me back a little here. When is a tilt not longer a tilt? I guess in truth I like the original better, both have a nervousness inducing quality with those bold graphic lines...this one just piles on a little vertigo to go with it.
Wouldn't hang it on my wall...but I vote yes
Cheers

Experiment successful!
I don't think you have overdone with your idea, I think that it's the aim of Architectural photography to stress the key features of a building, and you did well.
I agree also with sepia conversion, well done.

Hi Cheuk
Pourquoi pas, mais pas convaincu par ce retournement. T'as tenté, mais je préfère largement le WS.
La photo en WS, dans le sens normal, est vraiment sympa, mais ici, je vois pas bien...

Hey Cheuk!
Hahaha...this image did quite a stir! Well we all have our opinions, we have our own way of seeing things. I'm an artist myself and seeing things differently depends on the person seeing it. I remember seeing a "ramp" fashion show done outside the exterior walls of skyscrapers with professional rock climbers doing stunts like this and viewers were stunned with the "concept" but it worked as a marketing strategy.
IMO technically the architectural design, lighting, lines, shadows and the perspective is GREAT! This image would be more viewed more "comfortably" if without people?...for me this made it more dizzying due to the "orientation" which is unusual ...I guess I would "angle" it just a bit but not this extreme. well good attempt though...still love your creativity Cheuk ;/

Cheuk,
I am not orthodox but this is unacceptable somehow.
I really surprised seeing this.
Shot itself is beautiful but not the expirment.
Shot it self has potential to deliver a lot, This is totally unnecessary!!!
May be you like it but I am not much willing to do something like this. I can say fabricated dynamism, which also taking out charm of originality.
Do you see what I mean.
But I respect your courage.

Hi Cheuk Hin!
Well, you wrote that you prefer us to tell you if we dislike the image than to leave no message. Fine, so be it! ;) Ok, maybe I am too conformist. It could be. But I don't think it is the case for me here. In fact, what I don't like is not that much the fact that the photo is upside down. It is the fact that this way I just think we are losing too much the beautiful graphical lines. For me, those lines are just working better in the horizontal format.
The light is beautiful and people are like ants.
I give you one point because of the photo in the WS.
Claire
