[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The monsoon in Yunnan province had arrived early, they said. During my short 24 hour stop in Dali the rain did not cease for a minute. Dali, situated in the west of Yunnan Province, has an area of 28,500 square kilometers with a population of 3 million. Dali possesses one of the country's seven freshwater lakes - Erhai Lake and is surrounded by snow capped mountains. A a jewel to behold, they said. (take a look: http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Asia/China/South/Yunnan/Dali/photo361618.htm)
I just have to believe them and return another time, when the clouds are not hovering just above the lake making visiblity of the perimeter impossible let alone the surrounding countryside. BUT in the rain you get nice reflections -- every cloud has a silver lining.

Elaine springford ,
Nice chot.
very clear & sharp.
Nice reflections on wet flooring.

Nice holy touch.
Nice POV.
Very well done.
TFS,
Shailendra

This is gorgeous, Elaine. The reflections caused by all that rain make it even more evocative. A lovely and serene work... filled with atmosphere. I like how the red of the temple roof is echoed by the little wooden object on the right and by the flame close to the man with the umbrella. Lovely!

PS Happy you all are well... James sounds great, thankfully!

Hi Elaine, A very peaceful shot probably enhanced by the reflection on the wet surface (although I'm sure you would have preferred it differently!). I really like how an almost black and white shot is 'disturbed' by the red roof of the pagoda and the other few dots of reddish colour dispatched through the scene. There is a lot of care in the composition here as well. Sabine

Hi Elaine
Interesting PoV with the rain wetting the floor and a lone caretaker minding his job.
What's more interesting with the overall grey toning that the red and orange outstood the performance.
Cheers and good day, Elaine.

Nother stunning shot from Chin. There is a cool, almost cerebral sheen to yuor China pictures that is very alluring. This is very mature work, Elaine. I like the orange roof and the tiny fire in an almost monochromatic setting, and the neat reflectionson the wet stone.
Lovely!
Francis

Hello Elaine
This overall scene is very magical. Has an aura of the traditional China whcih seems to be disappearing to modernity. Beautiful placement of the objects and great reflections.
Well done
Regards
Daniel

Hi Elaine,

Obviously the rain was not an obstacle for you to achieve a nice shot!! You found a perfect pov where you could include a lot of nice details. The red roof and the fire is a great contrast to the grey colours.

Hi Elaine

This would also work well in b&w. I like the reflections in the wet pavement. Excellent sharpness & pov. Tfs.

Lovely, just lovely Elaine..there's nothing compared to the atmosphere created by rain (we do have a lot of them in my country)...the dull light has brought out the orange of the roof & the burning lamp so very well....and yes, those reflections on the rain drenched floor..beautiful
