Hong Kong Skyline 2006 Photo

Photographer’s Note

You may laugh reading this title but Hong Kong is really a skyline that must be enjoyed together with a vintage, there are no real bad harvests in HK's yearly skyscrapers new additions, just each new year brings new ideas and realizations, to fully measure what I mean please take a look at this photo from 1963.

Now looking at the 2006 version you can notice three buildings that really stand out, to the right the 420 m high International Finance two tower, to the left with its unique Mordoresque shapes the Bank of China and the brightly colored building right of the BoC is the HSBC building.

I have seen many cities on this planet, but to me Hong Kong is possibly the most impressive skyline, I guess only Sydney, Rio, Toronto and shanghai can match this !

excellente cette vue nocturne de Hong-Kong et bravo pour avoir trouvé ce POV fidèle par rapport à la photo de Brigitte de 1963. J'aime beaucoup les couleurs des grattes-ciel. Belle photo

Hello JY,
très intéressante cette comparaison, on reconnait la montagne dans le fond.
Les bâtiments ont bien grandi, ils ont mangé leur soupe.
Toujours étonnant de voir le développement de ce pays alors que 700 mio de chinois vivent avec moins de 2 € par jour (GEO de ce mois).

Jolie cetee vue presque nocturne sur Hong Kong.
J'ai eu un peu de mal a reconnaitre le bâtiment de Foster, il n'est pas très haut (du moins en comparaison aux autres).

hey jean yves. i am proud that you said sydney's skyline is great.

this is a good shot and i like the fact that it's just coming on to dark, which means we can see the buildings with their lights on.

did you get any more shots after dark? i definitely think skyline shots are best done in darkness when the colours and reflections on the wate are more dramatic.

great note too and nice link to the photo from 1963. huge difference to now.

C'est génial d'avoir trouvé une photo avec le même POV. Heureusement qu'il y a les collines derrière pour prouver qu'il s'agit bien du même endroit. L'évolution de cette ville est tout simplement spectaculaire.
Une belle image nocturne, même si ça n'est pas la blue hour. J'aime bien l'ombre furtive qui passe dans la baie.
Je te souhaite un bon week-end. Avec le temps qu'il fait, je vais pouvoir scanner quelques diapos! ;o)

Je suis d’accord avec toi au sujet de l’impressionante silhouette de cette mégapole, qui à la lumière de ta photo, prend toujours de plus en plus d’expansion. Pour y avoir été en 1993, je m’aperçois que cette île ne semble pas avoir de limite en terme de construction; il est toutefois dommage de constater que la vue sur le Victoria Peak est désormais obstruée.

Intéressante photo nocturne illustrant l’île de Hong Kong illuminée. C’est une bonne chose que d’avoir ces réflections colorées qui allument cet image atténuée par l’omniprésence du brouillard.

Je ne sais pas si tu as des photos de Shangai dans ta galerie, mais je vais y jeter un coup d’oeil à l’instant. Je te trouve généreux d’inclure Toronto, notre métropole candienne, dans ta liste des «skyline» impresionnants; je ne croyais pas qu’elle pouvait séduire comme Sydney ou Rio... L’herbe est toujours plus verte chez le voisin!

Très belle vue d'HK by night! La mer semble gelée mais couleurs des building derrière sont magnifiques. Très bien vu!
Effectivement, la vue a changé depuis le temps où bibiweb y est passée étant enfant (et en ce qui me concerne, c'était 11 ans avant que je n'existe!)

A great shot of my favourite city. I don't know how many of this HK shots I have critiqued since I've been on TE (less than a month) but I open every one. You've done an excellent job here. I think I like this view better than from the peak.

Thats the classic HK I've been looking forward to see ;)
And it's interesting that you took it at around 6 pm... Usually the sky's totally dark but now you've presented this somewhat cloudly & 'dull' sky giving another view of the skyline. Good effort... I wonder where you shot it from.

J'ai pas super accroché sur tes derniers posts, mais là....nickel.
Une belle maitrise de l'expo et un ciel gris et lumineux qui me plait bien.
Tresè belle prise de "presque" nuit ;)
Assez barges ces buldings....et tout le monde semble encore bosser....je suis bien dans ma petite suisse ;)

une photo de crépuscule trés bien équilibrée en lumière et couleur,beau cadrage et en plus tu trouves le POV de brigitte qui nous rajeunissent pas, bravo et belle complicité comme quoi ....

An excellent place and multi-photographed, but from your side has something unique that I like it very much. Excellent capture of the lighting of these impressive buildings and great reflections on the water. I think you have leave more sky than other photos here. Nice work.

Hey Jean-Yves. Indeed that is a most impressive skyline. With the three second exposure I'm wondering how dark it really was when you took this. I see no noise and the sharpness is good. Too bad about the weather but it still turned out nice. tfs JY.

C'est de la folie ce changement en 43 ans, d'un autre cote, ca demontre que ca roule du cote business et developpement du pays. Quel festival de lumieres et d'acier, t'aurais meme du enlever du ciel pour mettre a l'etroit ces buildings.

It's a great view. But it being so famous and frequently photographed also the bar should be set high.
You had not much luck with the sky.
I think this could be better as a wide panorama version and darker gamma setting.

Very good night shot. I like the different colors of illumination of the modern buildings. Very good composition with the mountains on background and colorful reflections on the foreground of the picture. Well done, Bravo!

J'aimes beaucoup cette photo avec cette ambiance "chien et loup".
Les couleurs sont vraiment très agréables.
Dommage pour le flou du bateau au premier rang mais tu n'y pouvais pas grand chose.

The photo is cery informational, especially with the link and the note you have added. The only issue, in my oppinion, is the tilt - I think the photo should be rotated at 359 deg. I tried in the Workshop, but the frame was damaged so I gave in. Anyway, good capture.
