Grottoes

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The Yungang Buddhist Grottoes are carved into the side of a cliff in the Wuzhou hills overlooking a river valley by the village of Yungang in northern Shanxi Province, China. This is one of the several early Buddhist cave temples that followed the Silk Road.

A true TrekEarth moment ... a representation of early Buddhist cave art of the 5th and 6th century, probably seldom seen by the outside world. This goes straight to the World Heritage Sites theme.
Very nice shot. It's nice and crisp and your angle emphasizes the magesty of the statue. I just had a class about archaeology of the silk road in which we studied this grottoes, among other sites and objects. They are very impressive and you really bring that out nicely. I would like to see some of these sites someday, myself. Very nicely done.
This is so coooool. The details of the carved rock are so sharp and clean. It looks so large and powerful from the prespective you've chosen. This is just beautiful.

Excellent detail in the shot, Robin. I like the angle you got and the serene smile of the Buddha. Well captured.
amazing POV.
