Photographer’s Note
It was a dreary winter morning in Shanghai with poor air quality and all. I was disappointed with the photos I was getting. The only thing of any real color was this girl's jacket, so I desaturated the rest of this otherwise uninteresting photo to give it some impact. The girl is looking at Pudong, the new modern section of the city from the Bund, which is the older section of China's commercial capital. I went back in the afternoon when the sun was out and got the requisite color shots of Pudong's crazy ultramodern architecture, but in the end, I liked this shot best.

Olá Shaun,
Love the smoggy background, but in the front it's sharp. Good choice for B&W and also good idea to give colour to the little girl (just a small detail, it would be better if around the girl you've maintained the B&W).
Well done
Kind Regards,

Hi Shaun,
overall a nice photo. What I would suggest is to maybe hang around and simolify this scene. By that I mean get it less populated. You have 3 people here that dont really create a mood. A pair of lovers would be great. A lonely person would also be fantastic. Even those two men, without the girl. I like the smoggy, misty background and the futuristic cityscape. It has a cool sci fi look to it, sort of a dehumanizing one. A great foreground would create a great, tight package.
