While I was walking thru the village of Xiahe (tibetan name is Labrang) it was interesting to appreciate the different atmosphere from other chinese cities. Here the tibetan people was predominantly than in other areas.
It was very cold and just the day before it has snowed here.
Located in the southwest of Gansu province and northwest of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous prefecture; in northeast edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Xiahe is a great place to visit.
Labrang monastery is a large, sprawling Buddhist complex of significant importance. It is second in size only to the Potala Palace monastery in Lhasa.

This image of yours reminds me of some old photographers' travelogues. Because of the wonderfully classical framing, the hieratic pose of the monk on the right, the gentle smile of the one on the other side of the gate, the faded colours too, I guess. I am very touched by the overall calm it sprays out. I
live in China, as you may know by my intro -half in Shanghai, half in HongKong- so I will be most interested to travel to Xiahe. How does one get there? If you have any hint, I'd love you to share them with me. Ciao, --amz
