Photographer’s Note

So... I hear it is International Women's Day. I'm not too sure what this is just yet but I'm about to go and find out.

Here's a photo I dug out from Tiananmen Square. China can be an incredibly dirty place at times, but at the same time a lot cleaner than here in the UK and other more developed countries I have visited.

In China plastic bottles are collected by beggars and sold on in bulk to make money to eat and live. The woman in this photo is one of the official cleaners on the Square (I think). The job isn't easy at the best of times, but considering the incredible heat in summer I certainly would not like to swap places with them.

The work they, and the unofficial cleaners ;), do keeps Tiananmen Square an incredibly clean place. You won't see any litter lying around for more than a minute or two.

Hello Lewis,
Nicely captured.Though they have a broom theres no magic.The tired cleaner reveals mixed feelings. Seems like she is fed up of cleaning.. an other angle, it looks like shes triumphantly resting after ensuring no litter lays around the place.Great capture and TFS - Vikram

Wonderdul use of DOF here, Lewis, with a "purpose". Allied to your superb and timely note it makes for one of those perfect TE packages that really delights one across the board.

I like the triangular form of the main subject (isolated with a nice choice for the DOF). The photo tells us what the story is about. A really nice picture. Christophe

Thats a touchy capture, Lewis! Very good use of shallow DOF and long focal length to blur the BG! The posture of the cleaning lady is attractive and one can feel the rest she was caught by your camera...Well done!

The framing is OK, the diagonal lead to the woman and stops there, to see her. The mask tells us we're in Asia. The light is qoft and cool.

Very good topic,well presented with an excellent note.A question comes to me...why litter in the first place?do they have garbage bin?
Technically,excellent,well composed and the lady with its working tools are crisp and well contrasted against the blurred background.
