Tibetan pilgrim touched by the sun
 |

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Two large incense burners are placed in front of the Jokhang temple in Lhasa. Pilgrims that are walking the kora (pilgrimage) around the temple pass these burners every time they complete a circuit.
Juniper leaves are burned in these large pot-bellied furnaces, but pilgrims also leave also rice, water and tsampa (barley flour dough) in this place.
I took a few pictures of pilgrims doing their rituals at this place. The smoke coming out of the chimney made the scene rather dark and grey and sometimes blocked the view on the pilgrims. But in this picture a ray of sunlight came through and touched the man on his head. Also a few pieces of rice flying through the air are lit by the sun. Others pilgrims in the background close their eyes to protect them against the smoke. |

Wonderful Michael, especially that ray of sun on the man's head and in his eyes, and on the pieces of rice. The man looks nice with the blur on his hand, throwing the rice in the air, the beads around his neck, and all his bags
It's funny to see how indeed they close their eyes. Good note!
I would have cropped just a little bit more on the right, so that you would have ionly seen the arm, now you see a sunlit ear, hanging in the frame.
Was it nice yesterday?
Fantastic Michael, you have really captured to moment here very naturally, good detail and lighting, its good to see the different traditions and cultures of other countries, and this website allows us more so, thanks for sharing regards John.

I like this omage Michael. The magical light falls on this man, highlighting him, taking him out of the shadows that surround the others. Theres a mysticism to this shot.
Excellent shot. Very sharp. He has amazing eyes.

Michael,
Lovely atomspheric shot. That ray of light is beautiful just touching the man as if he has been blessed or rewarded for his journey. The rice too really stands out and higlights the sense of offering.
Great shot
Hi Michael, I admire you patience, not with obtainign the shot, but waitign to post it, I am alwaays so eager to upload and i am sure that I wouldnt have been able to keep this under wraps for four months.
The ray of light falls so nicely on his face and the rice is so nicely captured in the air. my only niggle is the sideface of the woman on the right I thiunk i would have cropped tighter.
Nice to see you back here.
