[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I spotted this Chinese character on a pillar outside a temple within the Summer Palace complex. It wasn't just the intricate nature of the character itself that attracted me - I also liked the texture in the wood and the detail of the cracked paintwork.

By the way - does anyone know the meaning of this character?

Hi Jonathan,
nice capture of a chinese character. I'm nearly sure that it is read jěng meaning path.
But I am no Chinese and I have not studied this subject. It's only a hobby.

I like this original idea, very nice catch, we even can feel the texture and the paint cracks of this pillar.

Hi Jonathan, A nice close up shot. The meaning of this character is "path", "road" and "way". I like the detailed sharp image as well. A nice shot with nice DoF.

As you say it is not only the POV here it's the textures that make it special - very well seen - thank you for showing us the 'way' ;)

Hi Jonathan,
Interesting textures and patterns here. I like the tight crop and the 50-50 composition. I also like how the light falls from above and lights the character, the little bright spot at the top gives a nice glow to the picture.
