Side view of Sino-Nepal Friendship Bridge, Nepal is on the left, China on the right
The no man's land is set at the middle of the narrow Friendship Bridge that crosses the Sun Kosi River to enter Zhangmu in Tibet
At Nepal, Kodari is still the only legal point of entry between China and Nepal, two countries with a common border stretching for 1,400km.
At Tibet (China), Zhangmu, is a customs town and port of entry located in Nyalam County on the Nepal-Tibet border, just uphill and across the Bhote Koshi River
The road, goes around the contours of a very narrow gorge a great distance above the river as it descends into dense, misty jungle
The crossing of the frontier (a red line on the bridge) is done on foot, baggage MUST be carried by porters (mainly Sherpas, very searched for expeditions to climb Mount Everest)
Before crossing, last papers were singed in Kodari, we were told that being a frontier not photo was allowed, walking along the bridge was great, plenty of local color, so I began to walk slowly and in a moment looked back to see, once more, the colorful, big trucks, the scene was so good that I took some photos and immediately heard the frustrating cry NO PHOTO, while four Chinese polices grab my arm and camera, so as a last attempt to save the photo I said the magic word “Dollars” that work in general, but failed, or they don’t understood or they were not corrupts, anyway the photos (2 or 3) were deleted by them
When I continue the crossing I saw at the far end my group, obviously having fun watching my adventure
We continue together to climb a cliff where another van was waiting for us
Arriving there, I saw part of the scene with the bridge far below, half hidden by bushes and what I believe are cannabis plants, few polices there so I managed to catch this only capture
From The Guardian
Nepal will be a friendship bridge between China and India," said the Maoist prime minister of Nepal, Baburam Bhattarai, who was ousted in March. Delhi is afraid it will be more of a Trojan horse, concerned at the prospect of a massive influx of Chinese goods, served by the free-trade agreement linking the two countries.

Maria, what a fascinating story that goes along with this photo. Amazing that this is the only crossing point between the two countries. Your image gives a great sense of the gorge and the crossing bridge. Thanks.

A majestic view of the rugged valley giving us the taste of height and scale at the same time with section of the spanning bridge attracts the eyes together with other brightly lit interests. I feel the brilliant lush green sets off and soothes the whole scene so pleasantly a shot also depicts the land formation catching the magnificence of the steep ridge, and the immense textures throughout. I love the touches of vivid colours there helping to direct focus of attention into the whole scene, You did your best from this viewpoint worthy of a few shot. Fine works, Congrats

interesting place and the note which accompanies your photo. The POV is quite distant and thanks to that one can see not only the bridge but also very captivating surroundings. The buildings and the bridge stand out from all this greenery with their bright colors.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day

An interesting photo with an interesting note. The bridge looks so crowded and busy, not at all like in 1972 when this was a very quiet and empty place. You were lucky to pass this way in those digital era. In earlier days they could have taken the film and you would have lost a lot of pictures. That happened to me once in Africa. In 1972 nobody cared that I took photos from the Nepalese side into China. Maybe I will show those photos here later.

Belle journée a toi

Hola Maria querida,
para un commentario en espanol se vuele entender un poco mas, no he escribido por muchos anos y no se como usar el keyboard espanol... I like very much this picture, I didn't know about this place and it's obvious that your capture is rare. You often mention in your notes little or big adventures, you seem to never give up if you really want to capture a view or a portrait:) The point of view here is rewarding and fascinating, the bridge is placed in an impressive context and we get a good glimpse at the activity on it. Lighting and colours have been managed effectively. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Reading your note about, I still see buses crossing the bridge, hope you had not have much bagagge to carry across...
Fine taken shot from a higher ground over the trough and the bridge between countries, blue & whoite colors contrast to green and grey.
Have a nice Easter-holiday weekend,

The craggy river canyon appears like a natural border between Nepal and China. The arch bridge a small spot of humanity in the scene.
And why no photos? My experience with "no photos", is usually profit from selling exclusive images.
Buy why here?
Do have an excellent Easter and Spring,

Interesting note, I admire your brevity in taking those shots, a shame they deleted them. Still, at least they did not take your camera, or we would not be enjoying this wonderful scene either! Its a somewhat ironic note to go with a place called Friendship Bridge!! I love the sense of scale you caught here, the mountain looks gigantic and the trucks look like toys.
Thanks as always

I like your pov of this bridge but it's so sad that somehow people just don't get along, why? Must violence be the answer to everything? Why not peace and love? In time of Easter we should "love thy neighbor." TFS

Salut ma chere,
I hate to do this, but with very limited free time at the moment, please pardon my ‘copy & paste’ note. I really wanted to respond to as many as possible before this next week really gets away from me. With no time for details unfortunately, I can still say this image is one that I find quite enjoyable. :) All the best to you and yours for a Happy Easter. Take care.
Not quite the friendliest of bridges, well...the authorities anyway!? Crazy!
tenretin (2211) 2014-04-21 1:25
Firstly Happy Easter!.
Beautiful photography with a sense of depth well exploited in this canyon. It is imaged. You have taken advantage of this place with skill. The rating allows me to better understand the situation.

Very photo with good light and clarity and a good view from the top to see the whole are and the bridge and the hill above teh bridge seemed imposing.
This reminded me of the time when I travel back from Tibet into Nepal and there was a long line at the border, so we walked into Nepal in the no-man's land.
PaulVDV (20233) 2014-05-21 9:12
An picture taken illegally of this border crossing and the infrastructure made public on the internet! In addition the evidence that cannabis plants are growing in China! How dare you :)
There seems to be a lot of traffic between both countries. That probably makes sense since this is the only border crossing.
A very nice view of this deep gorge that separates the two countries. Beautiful wooded hillsides.
Best regards, Paul
