The main element of the so-called St. Paul's Ruins is the main façade of the old Church of Mater Dei. Established in 1580, the church suffered two fires In 1595 and 1601, respectively, later being reconstructed in 1602.
It is possible to observe the foundation stone at the base of the façade, on the left side.
The architectural concept was authored by the Jesuit Carlo Spinola. The works would only be concluded later on, in 1637-1640, noting that the façade of the old church dates from this period.
In 1835, the church suffered its THIRD FIRE, in which it almost perished completely, only remaining the main façade and its foundations.
Since then, what is left from the old church has become what is known worldwide as St. Paul's Ruins, from which the term "Sam Po" is recognized in Chinese, while the façade of the old church itself is known as
"Pai Fong" in Chinese, as it resembles a commemorative traditional Chinese arch.
fechada principal e as fundacões.
These is the story I heard there and I hope you like it :)

Although the major part of the church has been totally destroyed and even disappeared, the remaining facade looks pretty unscathed.
In addition, it even looks quite impressive on top of these stairs and with the sky on the background.
A very beautiful capture with much life on the foreground.
Best regards, Paul

Very good shot of the Façade, a very famous spot in Macau. It really give the feel of the European environment with the architectural style. The stair leading our vision into the façade and beyond. Good quality image with lovely colors and good composition. Lots of people but hard to avoid in places like this.

Please forgive the long delay in responding to your critics - looks like I owe you 2 now - ha! ha!
Sometimes the work & holidays take up any spare time one has.
I found your extensive notes very interesting to read & love the photo of course.
The POV & clarity as are the colours all great.

Ciao e buona giornata

Bom dia Rui,
It looks like a european landscape ! You show well the old portuguese influence on Macao's architecture. The large scale naturally leads the look to this impresssive ruin. The builfond on the right addsan element more that gives some more depth.
