This was taken in the afternoon in Tagong Si Monastery, Tagong Western Sichuan. I just so happened to capture the lone prayer discharging his religious duty by spinning the last wheel clockwise and for a moment the sounds of reciting prayer & mantra filled the air in all directions. It was just mind-blowing and I was totally captivated........
The Tibetan Khampa prayer wheel or Mani wheel, symbolises the Wheel of Buddhist Law, the endless cycle of birth and rebirth and is one of the oldest symbols of Buddhism. It is used to represent Buddhism and turning the wheel is a metaphor for the Buddha's teaching of the dharma in the world. A prayer wheel is of a hollow metal cylinder mounted on a rod handle and containing a tightly wound scroll printed with a mantra. According the Tibetan Buddhist belief, spinning such a wheel is just as effective as reciting them orally.

Lep pogled na molitveni tocat ...
Dobar snimak i perspektiva, lepo pokazano mesto i Tibetanski molitveni tocak, lepe boje.
U svetu ima mnogo vera i obicaja, dobro je nauciti nesto novo.
Prijatno vece i sve najbolje u novoj nedelji koja je pocela, srecno.
Nice view of the prayer wheel ...
Good shot and perspective, nice place and shown the Tibetan prayer wheel, beautiful colors.
The world has many religions and customs, it's good to learn something new.
Good evening and all the best in the new week that started, good luck.

Another splendid one !
I like the color contrast between the red robe of the monk and the yellow prayer wheels, the long perspective, the feeling of action given by the first wheel blurred upon spinning. Also the contrast between shade at left and light at right

This is a different scene we normally think of China. The row of golden wheels are overwhelming. As the "last prayer" in the far end, this picture was so perfectly taken. Thanks for sharing!
Noel_Byrne (28152) 2014-01-27 7:55
I have seen these prayer wheels before, and I thought they were fascinating, your capture here has caught that feeling of solemnity and movement so well, and I guess that's not an easy thing to do with a camera. the colours and point of view here are absolutely perfect to help place the viewer right in the scene. The shot has a perfect balance of light and dark, beautifully done.

nice the view of the daily custom of the monk to spin the last wheel clockwise, with the sound to be spread in the air. When i was in Chine six years ago,a monk spin the wheel with the way you write and a really strange sound be heard in the air.

Unique perspective with two rows of cylindrical forms of different colors. At the top of the lane, the human figure completes the beauty. Wonderful geometry here with very good colors and light management.
With best regards,

The golden color accompanied with red captivated me at first sight. Than the composition got my attention. Marvelous framing.
ourania (38816) 2014-01-27 13:20
a simple composition that presents this intimate scene with great respect and effectiveness. The perspective is attractive and interesting, the warm glow of the cylinders is so appealing but just as lovely and important in this frame are the dark tones and the shadows. The sense of depth and the way you managed the light, showing us the scene clearly and at the same time preserving the calm and intimate atmosphere, is really remarkable. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Excellent composition, the prayer is really well placed in the photo. Great colours on the prayer light, that enlightens the overall.

Très bonne photo avec une belle gestion de la lumière et une vitesse lente de prise de vue donnant la sensation de mouvement.
CLODO (32934) 2014-01-28 0:23
Perfect framing to get this perspective with the live rolling wheels (good idea to use a slow speed to get the motion)leading our view on the colorfull monk at the back.
My best regards

I like the motion blur you have captured on these prayer wheels, it has brought so much dynamism in this composition. Perfect choice of POV to present perspective and depth to the photo. Lovely golden hues on the prayers wheels contrasting the red robe of the monk so well. I have some photos of prayer wheels, but your is really outstanding. My compliments on a good capture.
Thanks for sharing.

Excellent view, superb light and nice colors. The red is very well standing against the gold. You have exposed this image very well. Also the focusing is perfect.
Wish you a very nice rest of the week.

I have never heard about these wheels. This must have been a great experience. Sadly photos how us only one aspect. They are not able to transfer the sounds but from what you are telling us it sounds very unique. Great composition her with the repeated element of the wheel and the red cloths go so well with the golden wheels! Very atmospheric! Well seen and captured!
sevy (15367) 2014-01-28 6:46
It is something I tried to do many times in Nepal and India, to get rotating blurred prayers mills, but the results were never as nice as this one.
I like the composition with a good readability and with the red monk in background evidencing the use of the mills and their size.
eldancer1 (33803) 2014-01-28 7:38
The lighting seems to convey the solemnity of the situation, I like the mood and good enough details to recognize the prayer wheels. Well done, tfs.

la successione dei cilindri attrae immediatamente l'occhio anche in virtù del loro colore dorato.
Anche in questa all'eccellenza della cvomposizione si unisce la cura del dettaglio e la straordinarietà della luce.
Ciao e buona serata

You're capturing well this this scene by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see a row of big yellow wheel and a reciting lonely prayer. It looks like a deep religious ceremony. His red robe matches well with the color of a whell and grey ground. And, the wooden pillars at left side draw out peculiar atmosphere in this monastery.
adramad (41950) 2014-01-29 7:38
Very original and interesting image, with this good perspective to the sequence of all these big rolls of prayer, the presence of that person in the background gives a good vital touch.
The note is very interesting to know the uses and history of these elements that shows the image.
A lovely colorful in very natural shades.
The lighting is very well managed and good sharpness brings out the details and textures.
Well done. I love it.
Have a nice day.
All the best.
P/D. Very grateful for your kind congratulations.

J'aime la scène, le contraste des couleurs et de la lumière, la perspective , un très beau moment capturer et présenter
Waylim (25442) 2014-01-29 11:24
This is so beautiful and I love the feeling of the wheel is still spinning and that sense of motion is like watching live iamges.
The light is difficult here but you did well and love all the details and the mood of the place. I feel peaceful at ease looking at this image, like I'm transpired.
jacquest (18919) 2014-01-30 4:35
If no sound can be heard from an image, the golden color of the drums is sure eye catching. Interesting scene and note.
rychem (30229) 2014-01-30 9:19
Fantastic photo, i like it very much, we can see the rotation of wheels, excellent capture, great composition
Kamilutka (8105) 2014-01-31 7:10
on my last trip I was fascinated by the praying drums and their presence in so many places including hotels or even bus stations. These have been captured in very beautiful way. One can see the movement and the anonymous person spinning them adds very much to the whole composition. Good depth and the row of the drums nicely counterbalanced by the dark pillars on the left.
I like the darker colors which make good setting for the gold wheels.
Thanks for sharing

Truly unique and wonderful scene you have observed and photographed here. Like the way you managed perspective and depth to make this view classy and elegant. Strong color contrast built a wonderful sight to give eye-catching impact. Well done! TFS!
Have a nice day!

you have skilfully caught this religious intimate scene, with the prayer man and the motion of the prayer-wheels, in a nice dynamic effect.
I like how you have chosen this framing in order to enhance the geometrical effect of the elements, and to reach an efficient perspective.
Exposure control, light and colors, are managed beautifully.
A great work.
holmertz (47002) 2014-02-04 4:44
This is an interesting and eye-catching composition. The pillars and large, golden prayer-wheels give the view good depth along two diagonals, catching the brightly dresed monk (or maybe two) at the end of the line.
mcmtanyel (17997) 2014-02-09 18:48
Excellent perspective, colors and light management. Added to that are the lovely repeating patterns and the motion blur that brings dynamism to the scene. An altogether lovely photo.

Good and different shot! I like the light here and also the composition. The sense of movement is perfect! You captured the atmosphere really well!
