Ringed by 52m-wide moat at the very heart of Beijing, the Forbidden City is China's largest and best-preserved collection of ancient buildings and the largest palace complex in the world. So called because it was off limits for 500 years when it was steeped in stultifying ritual and Byzantine regal protocol, the otherworldly palace was the reclusive home to two dynasties of imperial rule until the Republic overthrew the last Qing emperor.
Today the Forbidden City is called prosaically the Palace Museum, although most Chinese people simply call it gugong - former palace.

A beautiful composition of this tranquil place nicely enhanced by your effective viewpoint and creative perspective. I'm so surprised to see just a few people walking around. Good use of the winding moat to lead the eye into the scene, the gentle curve adds some more interest to it. The sky makes a very nice contrast with the red of the palace. The composition is excellent, and so are the colours and definition. Very well done.

Tra l'altro un luogo molto lontano e di grande interesse.
Ottima composizione e bei colori.

A pleasant colour combination, I like this burnt orange against the blue sky. This picture is also well composed with the curved balustrade dominating the foreground. A very interesting view, a very fine TE contribution.
Happy New Year!

nice to see you back!
so you were in China! thats awesome news.
wonderful photo, this time it was all about the composition. love the way the lines 'snake' around the frame, and the architecture is nicely set back and to the right.
its a smart shot

Hi dear Kamlia, how are you?
So long time nbo news from you!!!!
Wow this is from China, ya typical image indeed.
You wisely use the curved arch with the best match of surroundings. The best color touch, composition and framework are wonderful and remarkable to see as usual.
All the best and have a good day! TAKERO

Welcome back. This is a very good photo from the Forbidden city. We can see how it, like most palaces, was partly built to impress visitors. Walking across the vast open space and then climbing the stairs up to the imposing gate would certainly make any visitor feel small. But there is also a lot of elegance here, as seen from the moat and railings curving very nicely along the foreground. The light is very good and makes the modestly saturated colours look very intense.
Kind regards and a Happy new year.

a beautifully balanced and irresistible composition this. Love the enticing curves and the way they contrast with the lines of the city buildings. Glorious light management that just adds so perfectly to the wonder of this famous place.

You captured magnificent architecture in Beijing, China. I heard there is air pollution (smog) all over China. For locals, it is not good for health. For visitors, it is not good for the quality of pictures taken.
From this picture, the air seems clear. Maybe you were lucky.

Good choice of perspective, in an a skewed angle over the canal-waterfront promenade, and the big palace on far right. Composition show a fine details of the edifice and beautigful stone-fence along, with people giving scale about the size of this place.
Happy holiday and best wishes for the new year,

Another very fine composition with special light which animates the stone. Nice use of the curve and reflection. A very thoughtfully planned composition. Regards. Klaudio.

Of the two, I go for this one; A wonderful shot beneath that deep blue sky and your enterprising use of pov, compo and wide view with that sweeping curve nicely lead into the scene. A finely exposed shot on a bright beautiful day, clean and fresh with stunning red to hold the focus firmly. Delightful rich colours and contrast with lots interests to make it a joyful shot and to sum up the beautiful complex. Congrats
Happy New Year.

You were really lucky with the blue sky. It must have rained a few days before. Beijing is notorious for its smog. I have a similar shot from my gallery when I was there in 2007. Good sharpness and superb warm cold color contrasts between the blue and red. Have a nice weekend!

Nice soft colors and reflects, good use of the first plan's curves, great sharpness too !
All the best for the new year !

Great composition, the different points of interest are well placed in your framing. I really like the play of lights and shadows on the palace, with a beautiful warm light on the palace, and the shape of the barrier in the foreground.
Good job !
jmdias (57091) 2014-02-17 16:44
I liked the way you used the fences and the curves of the place in the foreground with the colored pavilions ahead., nice image. TFS.

I have just been enjoying your gallery from China, what amazing shots you took from there. You present the country as a place filled with legend and mystery, and of course beautiful design. Just like this one, the soft leading curve of the balustrade and the pin sharp reflection in the water, combined with the might palace is wonderful. How did you get this with so few people in it?? Beautifully done.
Thanks as always
